Joey Kay
What a rip! Too bad Solaris isn't a registered trademark of Atari. I was at the theatre this week and there was a preview for some movie coming out in March of 2003 called "Solaris". I guess if Infogrames is as worried about this as the Atarilabs website, something would come of it, but like that will happen. Just thought it was interesting. Perhaps we'll see a glut of Solaris carts next spring on e-bay like that brief glut of ET carts when that movie was re-released! Cheers! ATARIPITBULL
You never know, people will even try to sell there Solaris 2600 cartridges on ebay and say they are part of the movie.
Chris++
I wonder if Doug Neubauer sold the trademark to his game or something. If not, this might be one of those rare instances in which a lawsuit is actually justified. CF

ubersaurus
Solaris is a remake of a 1960s russian sci fi movie, based on the book by Stanislov Lem, and its really cool.

slapdash
I should also point out that trademarks are usually industry or product specific... In otherwords, even if this were a new movie entirely, Infogrames probably couldn't sue because there's nothing in common between the movie and the game. I never did get to see the Russian movie, but the book was pretty f'n cool, so I'm kind of looking forward to this movie...
Joey Kay
Yeah... since Solaris isn't a registered trademark, I doubt there's anything that could be done... and speaking of my ALF avatar... Do any of you remember how the Tanner family on ALF had a Vader 2600 (which seemed especially odd considering the show aired during the NES supremecy... mind you, ALF debuted in 86, so I guess it would make sense whoever was buying the set for the program picked up a Vader 2600). I remember one episode where ALF was playing Space Invaders and commented "Easy shot... no wonder the martians are extinct!". I think the sad thing is I'm still holding on to that moment which happened 15 years ago... Cheers! Joey
krisjohn
My fav. Alf line: Grease fire, grease fire! Don't worry about the curtains, put me out! Or something.
