Tempest
I've seen a few, many of the big prototype hardware collectors have one. They're really rare, but not really a one of a kind either. I think there are at least a dozen out there, maybe more. The rare part is the cover for the box, I think only a few were made with the cover. Of course its absolutely useless without the cards that went in it, and you'll never see those for sale. Tempest
El Destructo
At an Atari expo many years ago, I remember seeing an Atari "expansion box" of some kind, but it didn't look like the one pictured in this auction. I remember it having a silver and black color scheme. It was from Atari, labeled as an "expansion system", and definitely some kind of add-on. What am I remembering? Curt Vendel
As of 7:53 CDT today it comes back as an "Invalid Item" when I click the link. Gee, what a shocker . . . Yeah... I noticed that too, I sent Chris Strong ( who was the seller) an email this am asking him what happened. I know some people over at Ebay and I'm going to call over to our SC4 datacenter later and see if someone there can tell me why the auction has been shutdown, some lammer most likely emailed them and tried to say it was not a prototype auction or some kind of crap like that. Albert
The seller has put the auction back up on eBay, apparently eBay canceled it because he was requiring the high bidder to compensate him for PayPal fees if that's how the winner chose to pay. Here's the new auction: Prototype Atari 1090 XL Expansion System It's presently at $305.00 with a BIN of $1200. ..Al

I think that was the one I had the opportunity to buy. I turned it down. Oh well, my loss. I can say that whoever purchases it, you are getting a true well taken care of item. Chris is very meticulous and passionate collector. Best luck to the winner of the prize.
tyranthraxus
I just looked in at the auction and it finished at $610. I've bought cars for less! I expected this auction to go for 900-1100. Considering the BIN was 1200 I wonder if the seller is dissapointed? The buyer must be pleased. John
Tempest
I think it went for so little (if you can call $600 little) becuase it was missing the cover and any cards. If it had a card or two the price would have been twice or even three times that. Tempest
