Best SMS game of all time?

Double Dragon

Double Dragon? The SMS version is an awful conversion, and I've played the 2600 version so I know what I'm talking about. ;)

I don't know that I can find many really enjoyable games for either the SMS or the NES. Yet I enjoy Atari 2600 games and Mega Drive and SNES games. Strange.

Rampage seemed okay from what I remember.

Compared to the Genesis port, just about every other classic system port is awful. The SMS version is one of the most faithful 8-bit console conversions. Unlike the NES port, it tries to mimic the arcade, and succeeded for the most part. The levels are sooooooooo much more faithful to the coin-op than NES's. The gameplay is very hard, I'll admit, but that's what keeps me coming back for more. It's not as easy-flowing as the NES version, but oh well. Plus it has the Two-Players at the same time option, something the NES ignored.

Is it as good as the NES version? Let's call it a draw, since they both have their good and bad points. Main point is that the SMS port isn't THAT bad, you need a source of beating people up on your SMS.

(I know you said nothing about the NES port, but I needed something to compare it to).

Miles Tails Prower -

c'mon - the SMS was a lame duck of a system - I had to sell these things for a few years in the UK, and saw the games running day in and day out for 4 years...

I seriosusly cannot think of ONE great game on the system - the arcade ports were woeful, the Genesis hand-me downs were well just that hand me downs...

I never got into the RPG's 'cos the NES titles seemed far more involving - Zelda, FF, Dragon Quest etc...

Even if you hate me try harder to defend the SMS!

Actually, the 3D missle shooting game (I forget the actual title) was outstanding. Graphics notwithstanding, the 3D effect was the best ever in a videogame.

And R-Type was a great conversion of a great game. The graphics were detailed and the game was faithful to its arcade parent. In fact, I played the snot out of the SMS version of R-Type while I was in college and it was the major reason I recall the system fondly to this day.

Just my two cents.
