Atari5200
too bad can't see the numbers on the back in the pic, I never heard nor seen a gold lynx. BUT. I can tell you from my involvement in the GP32 scene some while ago, it is not hard to paint a system and make it look legitimate. My initial thought is Buddy got taken for a ride when he bought this to begin with.

I am not trying to accuse you of lying or anything I just think it is in fact a spray painted Lynx. It reminds me a lot of this one http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...p;hl=white+lynx It's possible the person who sold it to you was lying to you? Or maybe we are all wrong and it is legit? AEX
AFAIK... That was done for a UK Distributor called Dixons, which Atari corp once held quite a large share holding in back in the day. I'm not 100%, but I think Curt Vendel had one (or perhaps that has made its way from Curt via eBay at some stage). To say its spray painted is of course bloody obvious! The actual Lynx one is spray painted anyway (with a dark gray lacquer), and this would also have been specially painted for whatever promotion it once was used for. Its genuine as far as its a Lynx and its gold :-) Unless it was made for Goldfinger Karl
buckeye25osu
Some of the people in this thread have been kinda rude to the OP. I think it's pretty cool you posted this as I'd never seen nor heard of a gold lynx. I'll ask some of the other people in this thread, if you found a non-working gold Nintendo World Championships cart is that a "turd" or worthless too? How about a 1908 Model T Ford that doesn't run and is missing a door? A turd? Worthless? Extreme examples I know but I think the point is valid. Well, if I found a non working Nintendo Championship cart that had been spray painted gold then yes, that would be a turd 1908 Model ford, thats a bit of a stretch...but non running and spray painted gold would be a turd in my eyes The amount of time/money to get it running and looking good would just not be worth it to me, bad analogy if you ask me but just for the record I don't think the Gold Lynx is a "turd" I was just questioning it's authenticity
Cobra Kai
If we were talking about a fully functional Gold Lynx, then we would have a completely different situation. What does it matter if the D-Pad is different if it doesn't work? A Dpad that looks different and doesn't work INCREASES the value of a Lynx? That thing is also missing both back covers. If it looks like crap, and it works like crap, what do you have? I'm not even questioning the authenticity of the device, it may in fact be legitimate, it may not. That isn't the issue with me. I have no problems with Buddy, but I really think that Lynx is crap. I don't know how to say that in a nice way. Nimtene
What does it matter if the D-Pad is different There's nothing special about the D-Pad on this Gold Lynx. There were two version of the Lynx I released, the original version had the D-pad attached to a round disc, the second (IMO, cheaper version) had the cross-style D-pad, as seen on this Gold Lynx. Atari5200
and also. If this system is in fact as rare as it is "supposed" to be, the owner would have taken a hell of a lot better care of it than it is. My opinion, and coming from experience with GP32s and fake paint jobs, this is a busted up Lynx, painted and trying to be sold as rare. I'm not saying Buddy is lying, he was probably lied to when he bought the thing. The only thing I would ask is to post a better picture of the serial numbers or the back maybe that would lead a clue to the authenticity. Someone on this site clearly should have info, or I'm sure Curt would have posted himself if this was authentic by now (unless he hasn't read the post) but a topic titled Gold Lynx, is going to grab attention.
