Gunstar
I've been trying to figure this game out, it looks and seems really cool from what I found so far, but I don't really know what I'm doing. Anyone here played this game? Its a 3D polygon game (what they refer to as "solid vector graphics"-from the pre-mainstream Polygon days) and quite impressive for the old 16-bit ST. In fact, I've been quite impressed by most of the 3D games I've come across so far (4 or 5). I'm stuck on this one though...I've figured out how to move and fly and shoot, I've also learned how to open my helmet in the vaccum of the moon and kill myself, how to turn my oxygen on and off, release gas, and get rid of my grid/crosshairs. But I keep dying very soon of radiation poisoning, I believe from the sun, caused by being on the surface too long. I can't seem to find any shields or get off the surface. I've found some kind of terminal and an arch that looks like you walk through it, but it doesn't do anything automatically anyway. anyone know some other controls, or if there is a menu screen or inventory or something? How do I keep from dying of radiation? Any docs on the net for this game? I haven't found any.
Han
I have got the original game somewhere, it's one of the last games I bought for my ST. It's pretty cool, but a bit hard if I remeber correctly. I will see if I can find the manual and perhaps scan it and post it here.
Han
Found it! I have scanned the essential pages, skipped a few. I was a bit pressed for time. Download Infestation Doc's here enjoy!

LinkoVitch
I forgot all about that game. Cheers for reminding me Armageddon is another good one of theirs.. I'll never forget enticing my mate to come out (on link up) to meet me at my tank (so we could checkout each other on our screens.. in the old days of linkup all this was new).. I got bored and dropped the neutron bomb.. ran away and it went off just as he got there.. made a right mess of his tank was very funny tho Must dig out Infestation and get that completed tho
Gunstar
It seems to be a very good game, but I'm still having trouble getting past the first few seconds...it gives you VERY little time on the surface before you die of radiation overdose, so figuring out what to do is NOT an option, you obviously have to know what to do to make it underground safely. I have been given the controls and story parts of the game as well as descriptions of stuff you interact with, but much of that is shown in the game under the "objects" option on the main menu. Ive found and switched on a terminal on the moon surface, which is obviously for a "transporter" which I believe to be an archway near by with arrows pointing through it. The computer terminal ask me for identification for security purposes and that the transporter ie currently de-activated. I can enter letters&numbers here, but there nothing happens; not even an "error" or "wrong code" message. The return key seems to do nothing and so I can only guess that I am supposed to know some code that will activate the transporter automatically when typed in. The parts of the manual that were scanned for me do not indicate anything that I can tell. Does anyone know if I'm supposed to enter a correct code, and what that code might be? Or am I supposed to find a security key laying around? It seems like I have just barely enough time to fly to the terminal, activate it, enter a code, de-activate the terminal and run through the transporter once activated by entering the code on the terminal. Please help!!!

I've been searching my old magazines and online reviews and screen shots to find all the cool polygon type games. I found Armor-Geddon listed on an archive/ftp site, but there was no download available. So I'm still searching for that one...a few others Ive downloaded, like DI (a DOOM type game) won't load properly or the original file ist corrupted. Others have not been Zip archived properly and WinZip/WinRAR doesn't recognize them even though they have the ZIP extension. I'm thinking maybe they were zipped on an ST and I need to transfer the ZIP file over and unsip it with a program on the ST itself... I've managed to successfully transfer files to ST disk that have been as much as 800K on 80 tracks, others that are more memory and additional tracks, e.g. 82, have not worked. Although on some disk images of several games witha menu, I discovered that some games would load and others wouldn't, which led to my discovery that some of the disks I was using were single sided 360K instead of the needed double sided 720k, so that's cleared up. I'm running low on disks though and need to find a source of 720k disks...

I have a faint memory of this but I can't quite remember what you were supposed to do... hmmm.... Have you tried to enter Kal Solar on the computer? It is after all you name .... It just might work. Gunstar
I tried Kal, but I missed his last name being Solar, so I'll have to try that. Thanks!

LinkoVitch
maybe the lack of responce means it did work and he is currently busy crawling through ducts etc
Gunstar
Yes, it worked to get me through the transporter, but no matter what I try and how fast&far I run, I end up dying of radiation exposure...I've made it into the complex where ever the transporter took me, but it seems to be a radiated area still that I can't escape; there just isn't enough time given to figure anything out! I made it through two doors in the complex at my best time, when I manage to do everything else perfectly to barely give me the time to get even that far before dying. Maybe there is another way to go? I just don't have enough time to get anywhere else or look for anything else...I'm very frustrated with this game! It seems like it would be a fantastic game if I could avoid getting radiated and survive to do ANYTHING
LinkoVitch
I just aquired a copy of this and fired it up on STeem. I was wandering around for a good few minutes until I stepped on an egg how long time wise do you last? you sure you arn't running out of oxygen ? I think you had to do that to survive...
Gunstar
Well, I haven't actually picked an option to "close" my visor, I have pressed "F3" before when trying to figure out the buttons, and this was the "open visor" button and I promptly sucked vacuum and died! But I'll see if ther is something else...I'm not running out of oxygen, as my O2 levels look fine on the HUD, and it says I'm dying of "excessive amounts of radiation" or "radiation exposure" (one of those, I don't remember the exact wording. I am not lasting long at all though...30 seconds tops. I must be doing something awfully wrong, but I don't know what. I'll see if there is a "close visor" option, but since I start out on the surface of the moon with no atmosphere (apparent do to my head exploding from rapid decompression when I open my visor on the surface), I'm assuming the visor is closed. It says that the default is closed on the keyboard command page...I have also come across some oxygen and a battery when I get transported to the rooms, but picking them up doesn't stop me from dying of radiation exposure. I'm picking the option to start from the "initial" position on the main menu (#1) and it starts me on the surface of the moon with a radar dish behind me and I'm surrounded by the ant creatures and sentry robots. I immediately turn on my MMU flying unit and head directly in front of me, away from the satelite dish, towards another one that also has a terminal and a de-activated transporter arch next to it. I engage the terminal and type in KAL SOLAR, which activates the transporter then I head for the transporter and end up in some area with two very small rooms directly ahead and to the right of me. to the left, after taking a few steps forward, is a door that I open and enter, then I must close that door behind me before the next door directly in front of me will open (I assume some sort of airlock area), If I'm quick enough with everything I do, I can just make it through the second door before I die. Always of radiation exposure. I've successfully opened my visor in this area without rapid decompression and my head exploding, but I still die of radiation. All is over within thirty seconds. I've tried flying around on the surface looking for other terminals and entrances, but have only found what appear to be landing pads, on larger and black, the other grey, but have not been able to access them in anyway and there is no terminal around. I don't have enough time before dying to search for much, a couple loops around the area and I'm dead. I'll keep trying, but at this point I'm very frustrated with getting no where...I appreciate the help Han, and what you've said has gotten me further and the manual helped too, but it's not enough to keep me alive for more than a few seconds more...How do you guys access the base? through the same transporter? Or another way?
LinkoVitch
i have had a thought.. is the version you are playing, an original or a copy? perhaps if it is a copy perhaps the massive radiation dose you are getting is part of the copy protection? ie it knows it's a copy so lets you get 5 minutes worth of fun and then kills you off.. I think pompey pirates menu #29 has a working version
Gunstar
It is a copy I downloaded off the net, but I'm also almost positive that it is the Pompey Pirates #29 disk...and every other disk I've gotten from them or a few other places (I've downloaded like 10 disks) have cracked any copy protection techniques. For example, some ask for a certain word on a certain page of the manual, but no matter what you enter, they've made it so the word is accepted and the game runs. I suppose it's possible that these guys never tested the game long enough to see if there was hidden copy protection in this game. I'll double check who made the disk and look for other versions. If the game is worth it, I'll probably pick up an original anyway, but I need to have a better idea of the game before I know if I want it or not. I've already reformatted a bunch of disks that I downloaded games onto as the games sucked. I'm a collector first and foremost, and want originals, but I like to try-before-I-buy and collect only the best (at least on disk based systems, on cartridge consoles, I collect them all-at least that's my goal). You very well may be right about the copy protection though, even if it is the PP#29 disk...I remember making backups of my Alternate Reality disks years ago and when I tried to use a copy of disk one, the "long arm of the law" would take me into custody right away at the dungeon entrance and I'd die (they were dressed like men in black). Luckily I had the originals, so I used the original first disk and copies of the others. No problems that way...
Gunstar
You know, I just thought of something...if your using STeem emulation, then how are you using the original disk? Wouldn't you be using the Pompey Pirates #29 as well? If so, Why aren't you having the same problem if it's a copy protection technique? All my downloads are the .ST images or .msa converted to .st, the same used in emulators... Umm...on second thought, I just discovered that my version is a Medway Boys/FoF disk...downloading PP#29 now! UPDATE!: I downloaded #29 and it works fine! You were right! Thanks!
