The Jag Community is Pathetic...

With the exception of a very (VERY) few people... the Jaguar community is the most childish, useless and pathetic bunch of people I have ever seen in my life.

You all really disgust me. My basic issues:

1. No one works openly and constructively, never posting wip game code (just like 2600, 5200, 7800, 800 coders) never posting their source code (just like the 2600, 5200, 7800, 800 coders)

2. Everytime someone has a new game, you spend more time bashing the coder(s) and game(s) then supporting the games. Maybe you guys don't realize it, but practically no one codes anymore on the Jaguar platform, you should be happy with any games or work done on the platform.

3. You spend more time attacking one another then ever having any kind of constructive conversations.

4. You are actually concerned with PIRACY!!?!?! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notice how nearly every 2600, 5200, 7800, 800 homebrew is freely posted up for everyone to download. Yet when someone makes carts - people still want to buy the physical carts.

5. You guys are trying to make money from the Jag Platform --- you've got an audience of only a small handful of people (maybe if you'd stop alienating everyone that comes along you'd have a far larger base of enthusiasts!!!)

6. Everything has to be secret, no one is willing to share info, status of work or projects. You all have these little camps that fight with one another none stop.

7. Learn to WORK with one another, TALK with one another, SHARE idea's and such with one another - hey here's an idea, go look at the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 and 8bit forums - see... people WORKING WITH ONE ANOTHER, not FLAMING one another, SHARING with one another...

I have so had it with the whole lot of you, I have stacks of diskettes with source code to Kasumi Ninja, Defender 2000 and other sources.... they can just sit around until that bitrot to sh*t for all I care... all of the tools and source code I've released over the years, the Encryption keys for carts & disks, the countless files, video's and what not... you guys have squandered and pissed away so many opportunities to do some positive things with one another and maybe make people take notice and have some respect for the Jag Community...

All people do is look at the Jag community and move on - nothing to see hear, just a bunch of squabbling babies who don't know how to work with one another and get along...

Go ahead - Flame away, I could give a rats ass, nothing worthwhile in the Jag community to be bothered with anyway... hurry back to your flamewars, you might miss something....

*YAY* About time someone said all of this. Thus far I'm just a Jag fan looking to have fun with some good games. The little I've been in this section, I've seen plenty of what I call grumpy people. I think those who would do any of the things Curt mentioned should consider that... games.. are actually supposed to be FUN.

The Jag community is like the C64 vs 8bit community - except its for the same console..............

Someone in Hollywood should download all the topics here and JS II - The Guiding Light Soap Opera could have another run with the BS going on.

EXACTLY --- OMG!!! You hit the proverbial nail on the head... I dare say it may be more then just a comparison between Atari v Commodore, except the same console. It's worst then Dem's v Repub's, they seem tame compared to the digusting vitriol I see being spouted back and forth throughout the Jag community.

Notice I haven't participated in quite a long time, now you know why. I'm only supporting Atari platforms where there is obvious and evident support, sharing and cooperation throughout the whole platform community. No little infighting camps and attacks against fellow enthusiasts.

Nicely put Goochman.

Goodnight.

I share your sentiments, Curt.

I vented my own frustrations at the Jaguar "community" almost three years ago:

... there's a very good reason the Jaguar scene has remained so small.

As I said before, I rarely visit this forum, so I think I can speak with some objectivity as an outsider looking in. I do own a Jaguar and a JagCD and a decent collection of games (including some relatively rare ones like Breakout 2000, Iron Soldier 2 CD, Atari Karts, etc), and I really like the system and think it deserves better. But every time I start getting interested in the Jag again, and every time I start looking around to learn about new developments outside of the great stuff Songbird is doing, it's such a sickening experience that it kills any enthusiasm I might have for the system. I still play the games I own and buy new releases from Songbird as I can afford them, but I absolutely refuse to go anywhere near anything the rest of you are doing because there's so much negativity associated with it. From what I've seen, the majority of Jaguar enthusiasts are among the most immature, egomaniacal, paranoid, neurotic freaks to ever get their hands on a game console. Unless you guys can exorcise the bad elements and get some positive momentum going (for once), you're going to continue to be the red-headed retarded stepchild of the Atari family.

Developers like Songbird deserve compensation for their work, but I think the piracy concerns are greatly exaggerated because ... the Jaguar audience is small enough to begin with and only a small subset of those people are going to have the know-how or the desire to obtain pirate software. You're talking about a microscopic niche within a niche, and I don't see how it could have much of an impact on the "profits" of Jaguar developers (which is a laugh in and of itself; developers supporting the Jaguar for the primary purpose of making money are bound to be disappointed even if 100% of Jaguar users buy their stuff). Even if pirate dumps do show up, the real problem is that people are dumping cartridges, not that a CF cartridge exists that can play them. Again, as is usually the case with the Jaguar, the users are the problem, not the technology.

It seems that very little has changed. Three years later, the Jaguar is still the only video game console that needs its own Middle East peace policy. Pity.

I think that whenever talented individuals from all areas are brought to such frustration over what is going on in a community it is a loss for everyone. It is also a wake up call in a sense that hopefully somehow things can be brought back together in a positive way and a sense of cooperation and community will prevail.
