Games Beaten in 2010!

I had a fun time seeing what everyone was beating last year in this same kind of thread, so let's see 'em for 2010! What games have you beaten, what system, and are there any juicy details?

I started off the year tackling Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which I got for Christmas and have played it non-stop since. I got nearly 100% and had a blast doing it. Spirit Tracks is one of the best Zelda games I have played! Very fun!

So that's one for me thus far:

Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS)

I played Max Payne on the PC for the first time this past Sunday night, and I beat it in one (albeit long) sitting. Excellent game, really. I didn't plan on playing it for so long (about 8 to 10 hours), but the action was addicting and I kept wanting to see what happened next in the well-written story (something that doesn't happen very often in video games). Makes me wish I had the proper PC to run it when it originally came out.

Thanks for starting this up again Stan. Definitely a destination thread for me each year.

First game finished this year is Addams Family for SNES. One hell of a platformer that I have owned for years, but never picked up until this fall. Can't say enough good things about the game being the big hop n bop fan that I am

The 2010 list so far;

SNES

Addams Family

SNES Addams Family wears me out and turns into a tedious platformer for me pretty quickly, but I do get it out and play it from time to time!

Thanks for the kudos, I too loved last year's thread!

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Very short game

Really? I must suck then, because I am pouring hours into it and with all the Toads to find and the difficulty of some of the levels I am finding it to be just about right in length. Ah well!

I haven't gotten all of the star coins or toads yet, just played through the levels ;)

I find that I have actually been finishing games less and less often these days, my new year's resolution was to go through and clear some games I have left undone. So far, so good . . .

Little Kings Story

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law

Bully- the 2nd time through on this one. I love this game (I have the Wii version)

Yes- play Faxanadu- awesome NES game, in the style of Simon's Quest.

Spider-man for Playstation. Love that game still!

Me too. One of the best superhero games I have ever played to be honest. I just picked up the N64 version the other day. As is typical of N64 vs PS, it looks like the same game but with better visuals and controls, but no cinemas. So far the voice acting has remained intact thankfully

This year I've already finished Darkside Chronicles and Dead Space Extraction.

Considering that I love Resident Evil and that I'm generally a total Capcomaniac and actually really, really, really hate Electronic Arts - I still must say that Dead Space Extraction is by far a much better game! I'd even go so far and recommend it! :-o :-o :-o

I'm doing a bunch of NES this year. So far, I've beaten:

Rygar

Megaman

Ninja Gaiden

...I'm not using any tips off the internet. I figure, I've beaten these 20 years ago, I should be able to do them again!...lol. Some of these games I need to beat this year are going to be really tough though...Gaiden 3 comes to mind, and Castlevania, but in the spirit of these classics I'm going to beat 'em without any internet help. That's the plan anyway!..yikes, Battletoads. Ugh. Game Genie... :(

Here's a quick Q: In Ninja Gaiden, you can do a lil trick by holding down on the pad while you're equipped with the jump/slash magic. It's not in the instruction manual; I'm pretty sure I got that from a magazine back in the day. Would that be considered a 'cheat'? I beat the game years ago without that technique and it really forces you to work harder to acquire enough magic...same idea with Blaster Master. You can 'strafe' by holding in the A button while firing...makes the bosses MUCH easier as you can keep firing upwards all the time.

Would these two techniques be considered cheating? I'm not so sure...it's not like a code. Any thoughts?

Um, if you can do it without a code and it doesn't make you invincible/indestructable, then no, it's not cheating.. That one in particular is a great way of saving your magic when you get the spinning/jumping slash attack, and I highly recommend utilizing it as much as you can if you want to have enough magic to be able to kill each boss in one hit (via the spinning/jumping slash power-up).

One that might be a little bit closer to "cheating" is if you hold up and attack during a jump, you can actually attack multiple times. If you jump and attack regularly, you can do it twice, but if you hold up I think you can get as many as four or five swipes--You can hear the slashes, and they register, but you can't see some of them. Mash the attack button while jumping and holding up. Again, though, if you can do it, it's all a part of the game..

I just got an XBOX 360, so I finally got around to playing through Halo 3.

Relative to the previous installments, the FPS sections felt watered down. Most of the levels were entirely too short and there was something lacking in the combat dynamics this time around. Can't quite put my finger on it.

However, the vehicle combat was greatly improved, except the Scarabs were a bit too easy to take down.

The overall story arc was OK, but it wasn't plotted particularly well, and it contained some significant "perforations". It also incorporated a number of lazy hollywood-style cliches, which was disappointing. Shame they didn't split the Arbiter's levels off by themselves and continue the co-protagonist aspects of the 2nd game. Having him tag along for most of the Cheif's missions was pointless. He and the Chief really only needed to cooperate in order to take down Truth. Cortana shouldn't have been sidelined for 90% of the game either.

Still, immensely entertaining and better than 99% of the games I've played recently.

Next up CoD 4: Modern Warfare.
