Joey Kay
Did Atari make any SVGA monitors that could still be used with a modern set-up. Near as I can tell, the last Atari VGA monitor was the PTC1426, with a max resolution of 640x480... Cheers! Joey
Gunstar
As far as I know, Atari never made ANY "VGA" monitors for it's 16/32-bit computers; they may have had some with the Atari "ABC" IBM clones of the late '80's... VGA just stands or "Video Graphics Adapter" which is an old term used by IBM/Microsoft or whomever...Atari used RGB monitors, which are what VGA/SVGA monitors are anyway, but they aren't refered to as RGB like all the rest: Commodore/Apple/Atari/etc. I do think they had a monitor for the TT and Falcons that were a higher resolution than 640x480....maybe those computers have ports for industry standard "VGA" monitors to take advantage of the higher resolutions? But none specifically made for the TT/Falcon?
atarian1
Actually, the PTC1426 monitor was made for the TT and ABC clones. There is a switch on back of the monitor to switch between VGA and TT video modes. The TT has a variant form of VGA which results in a large border around the screen when one hooks up a standard SVGA monitor to the TT. That's the reason for the switch. I don't think the VGA standards were set in stone at the time yet which is why the TT has this variant-VGA display mode. As JK stated, I don't think they can display higher than 640x480 resolution (the TT Medium resolution). No monitors were specifically made for the Falcon since VGA/SVGA monitors were abundant by then.
