A2600
what are the games that are incompatible with the 800XL without the use of the translator disk??
Goochman
Easier to ask about a specific game than the whole list Slime needs the translator I know that.
Wrathchild
One I used to enjoy was 'Attack at EPCYG-4' (hope I remembered that correctly I think Shamus I needs an older OS too. Has anyone tried patching these for the XL/XE. Generally they're just making illegal jumps to routines in the OS instead of through the vectors IIRC. Callipygous
The 8-bit FAQ has a list http://www.faqs.org/faqs/atari-8-bit/faq/preamble.html Go to section 8.
8BIT 1337
One of these days I'll actually go through *all* of my games to document this, but I have found out the following so far: Only Run on My 400 Shamus, Montezuma's Revenge Require XL Fix Dig Dug, Dog Daze, Drelbs, Kid Grid, Miner 2049'er, Missile Command, Mountain King, Robot Battle, Zombies I'm pretty sure I have two versions of M.U.L.E. because XL Fix won't make the original game work on the XL/XE machines. It's a woefully inadequate list, but it's better than the aforementioned list if only because I've verified which games *do* work and which *do not* work with the XL/XE machines. Missile Command, Dig Dug - Should work on any machine. Are these disk versions? Miner 2049'er - Should also work. There was a bug in an early version, but did not think it was OS related. Mountain King -- maybe, never tried it. Other K-Byte titles are 800 only, so it could be. M.U.L.E. - yes there is an early version that doesn't work. Monty's Revenge - I've have played it on an 800xl. Is it the Parker Bros version or the earlier one ? my two cents,
8BIT 1337
Missile Command, Dig Dug - Should work on any machine. Are these disk versions? Yup, they're disk versions. I probably should have mentioned that - oops Miner 2049'er - Should also work. There was a bug in an early version, but did not think it was OS related. Could be - I think I have a few versions of it. But I definitely own one that wouldn't work without XL Fix or I wouldn't have noted it. Monty's Revenge - I've have played it on an 800xl. Is it the Parker Bros version or the earlier one ? I have two versions of Monty and to be honest I'm not sure which one requires XL Fix but I'm willing to bet both of them don't. I think one of them is '16k' and the other is '48k' or something like that. I have no idea which, if either, are the Parker Bros. version. AtariDude
I remember having this problem all the time back when I had my Atari 800XL. I finally solved it by going to office supply store and getting labels with colored dots. Anytime I got a program that required the translator, I would place one of the sticker labels on it.
