JohnBuell
I've always been frustrated when starting at level 0 in this game. I can find (I think) all of the secret rooms, but I only ever go as far as getting the saw and the extra metals, because I have NO idea what to do with the gas monster, the radioactive room, the room of monsters that look like jewels... Is there any explanation for these? I mean, I can get through levels 1-10 okay, but this one has long perplexed me.

Please try again with Handy and make a screen shot. Maybe i can help you if you show me your problem with pics.
EricDeLee
I need to spend more time with this game and the Buried Treasures one.
+jeremiahjt
Necro bump. I am working on level zero right now. I have some stuff figured out, but not everything. What was the purpose of this level? To give you some bombs to start level one? Maybe it was a tutorial type level to show you all of the different power-ups?
bomberpunk
i played the hell out of CMII on a dedicated console (link) and then found the light blue unlicensed NES cart a couple years later. never played it on another system. never owned a lynx. LX.NET
Necro bump. I am working on level zero right now. I have some stuff figured out, but not everything. What was the purpose of this level? To give you some bombs to start level one? Maybe it was a tutorial type level to show you all of the different power-ups? Did you try to shoot the walls in the lower left and right corner of the level? Once you have done that, try shooting the third block down after the opening you created to the right. It will open the bottom right room. Here you should drop the round boulder from the top left room. It will cause an explosion that opens the middle bottom room. The left bottom room can be reached be shooting the second block down from the right of the red comb thing on the far left in the top left room. Hope this helps. +jeremiahjt
I figured out dropping the boulder into the bottom right room to get the invincibility to get the metal bags hidden behind the fence full of fireballs. I have not figured out how to get the bags in the middle of the holes in the bottom middle room. In the left middle room you get the radiation suit to get the stuff in the bottom left room. Although I do not know what the umbrella does or what it is used for. I do not know what you are supposed to do in the top middle room or how to get to the top left room. bomberpunk
oops. i made the mistake of mistaking the NES game for the sequel in my previous post. in other news, i found out that there is a 2010 remake on Nintendo DS simply called Crystal Mines DS. unfortunately there's only one merchant on the entire internet selling the game, and he lives and ships to Australia. he quoted me a shipping price that cost more than the game. ...turns out i don't want it that bad! Did you try them?
bomberpunk
thanks for the suggestion. still expensive as hell but at least it was under $60 shipped.
Songbird
I had NDS Crystal Mines in stock until just about a month ago. I could import more from Australia if I had about 10 or so orders ready for it. It's a great port and includes the Buried Treasure levels I published on the Lynx a few years back.
+jeremiahjt
I've always been frustrated when starting at level 0 in this game. I can find (I think) all of the secret rooms, but I only ever go as far as getting the saw and the extra metals, because I have NO idea what to do with the gas monster, the radioactive room, the room of monsters that look like jewels... Is there any explanation for these? I mean, I can get through levels 1-10 okay, but this one has long perplexed me.Who knows if you are still interested in this, but I wanted to quote you so you know I responded. This is also the second time I have revived this topic. I recommended we play this level for the high score club because I figured someone would be able to figure everything out and I was right. Thanks to Peyo I can finally explain everything in this level. The saw found in the left middle room should be used to break up all the hard dirt in the right middle room and the one square of it in the top middle room. The boulder from the left middle room should be pushed into the right middle room and into the hole that leads to the bottom right room. It will fall and cause a reaction that allows access to the middle bottom room and the invincibility powerup which is used to get the bags behind the fenced in fireballs in the bottom right room. The bags on the island in the bottom middle room can be accessed by pushing TNT into one of the holes so the blast can make solid ground (thanks Peyo). The radiation suit can be found in the left middle room and be used in the bottom left room to push all the radioactive boulders out of the way. The umbrella in the bottom left room is then used to get the bags in the little side area of the left middle room. The umbrella keeps you from getting crushed by the falling boulder, but it is really not needed since you can simply outrun the boulder. The three top rooms all go together. Push only one of the arrow blocks in the top right room to reverse the one way gates on the level. This gives you access to the top left room. There you will get a fireball powerup and a shield to protect you from its effects. After getting those two powerups immediately head to the swamp thing in the top middle room and start destroying the swamp area. After getting all the bags there you can push the other arrow block in the top right room to reverse the one way gates again and exit to the center room. tripled79
I bought this game recently. Haven't had a chance to play it though as my Lynx died right after I upgraded the screen. I have a repaired Lynx in the mail... 1

The fun is figuring out the puzzles, just like Chip's Challenge. I enjoyed my experience taking down all 181 levels.
agradeneu
The game has great level design, many secrets. I think its one of the best Lynx games.
Ninjabba
This game made me return to the Lynx in my college years. Amazing design and music. The levels will get progressively more difficult, good thing you have unlimited lives. I prefer it over Chip's Challenge

Ill give it a few more goes though these styles of games may not be my cup of tea. We'll see.
