stringfellow
I have opened a few colecovisions now and only one has had this wire running from the front of the board to the rf box. What is this for? I was having trouble with my newest colecovision and when I clipped this wire the system started working properly. Here is a pic of what I am talking about. I borrowed it from someone's guide for disassembly.

Maybe another component in the RF box was touching the case and shorting?

Eliminating a ground is not a good idea, nor should it ever be a repair technique. All the grounds on the motherboard make contact with the metal shielding and prevent interference. I just found it weird that the other two colecovisions I have opened didn't have that ground. I think I will just make a new and different ground. That one just looks like an after thought anyway. Later revisions removed it and relied on the solder connection between the top plate and the mainboard.
stringfellow
so maybe it won't be so bad not having it.
Madaracs
so maybe it won't be so bad not having it. I do notice that the systems that have that ground wire have a clearer picture. But most people wouldn't notice. I like the ground wire because if I dismantle the ColecoVision for modding, I hate trying to solder the top shielding-plate to the mainboard. It's a real pain in the butt. Then again, Coleco probably never meant for the thing to be taken apart.
