Rev
According to this sales chart the DS version has sold 50,000 so far. Not bad i guess for not really being available in many stores that i have seen. I just got mine last week. This is VGChartz so i dont know how accurate it is..... My link has it already been out for 10 weeks? Edited November 29, 2010 by revolutionika
jaybird3rd
I'm curious to know how this compares to other DS game sales--not big, first-party mainstream titles, but other "niche" releases. Fifty thousand sounds pretty good, though, especially since Keith Robinson once said (in 2005, I believe) that they had sold ten thousand copies of Intellivision Lives! for the PC, which had come out several years earlier. roberto
If the data are accurate, it is indeed very good news for Keith (and the whole Inty community)! I think many third party niche games on the DS fared worse than that... PS. regarding the 10 weeks thing, if we include our preorders, definitely! chrisbid
an interesting point was brought up at cge re the packaging. intellivision lives on the PS2/Xbox/Cube did not do as well in the US as it did in Europe. In Europe, the front cover had a large alien from space armada. to the casual crowd, the faux space invader did a better job of describing what the game was than the generic console + dozens of games cover the US version had. i normally dont care too much about sales numbers, but in this case, the better this game does, the higher the chances intellivision productions finally releases new intellivision carts. jaybird3rd
Amazing there are 50k people in the world that want to play Intellivision still and on a portable no less! Awesome robots! I actually think that a portable is the best way for modern players to enjoy these games. Classic gaming diehards like us still enjoy sitting down in front of a TV or monitor to play them. But for most other people, I think that these older and simpler games are more enjoyable in short bursts on a handheld like the DS: the low resolution isn't as noticeable on a smaller screen, the DS does a better job of replicating the Intellivision's overlay system than any other emulation platform, and the games are generally very short and make for a pleasant distraction. I really hope the 50K figure is correct because that strikes me as a successful product launch and as chrisbid points out, maybe, just maybe, we'll see something new game-wise out of the intellivision productions folks. That would be cool. IIRC Keith said they'd pretty much sunk everything into this and if it did well it would give them options, which I'm pretty sure he said included new carts. Intellivision Intellivision Lives! for GameCube (out of print but still easy to find online) will work on the Wii with a GameCube controller! And if the DS version sells well, a Wii-specific version may happen! So spread the word! Intellivision Lives! for DS this Christmas!

Atariboy
Atari Greatest Hits for DS is only at 7500 and 3 weeks according to vgcharts. What does that mean? Intellivision wins!!!!!!!!!! If that's true (Which it quite possibly isn't when you consider the source), I imagine much of the blame lies with the high price point. I imagine once it sees a price drop or two and gets down to the $15 range, it will sell in respectable numbers. $30 for half a compilation is pretty steep. Intellivision Lives! for GameCube (out of print but still easy to find online) will work on the Wii with a GameCube controller! And if the DS version sells well, a Wii-specific version may happen! So spread the word! Intellivision Lives! for DS this Christmas! Unless they abandon the virtual keypad interface for console compilations (Which is sadly even present in Game Room for the 360), a potential Wii port hardly matters if you ask me. There's no reason why most any Intellivision game needs that during gameplay. Shouldn't have to bring up a virtual keypad when there are just 2 or 3 buttons on it that are even being used when there's plenty of buttons to spare on something like the the Xbox 360 controller, a GameCube controller, or Wii Classic Controller. Nothing ruins a Intellivision game faster then having to mess with a virtual keypad during gameplay. garyd97
What caused the huge jump in sales from week 7 to week 8? Also, the atari DS has higher sales in its first 5 weeks than the INTV version unless I am reading it wrong. According to this sales chart the DS version has sold 50,000 so far. Not bad i guess for not really being available in many stores that i have seen. I just got mine last week. This is VGChartz so i dont know how accurate it is.....
