AtariGeezer
Okay, I'll test my GateWay app with that configuration and see how it goes. If it works, I'll post it so you and others can do a test drive
Xebec
Cool. I will look for a copy of BBS Express ST. Got it. Let's see how this goes . . . Just FYI - I ran both BBS Express ST! and then later FoReM. I went FoReM later because my .. <cough> .. software sharing BBS required better (more efficient) file transfer protocols, and also better support for multiple HDD partitions. (TOS LImited 16MB partitions on a 520STm). I also briefly had Fidonet running on FoReM as that seemed very easy to do on FoReM.. With that said, BBS Express ST was substantially better in everything else from what I remembered. I wrote a few BBS Doors for Express (including a Trivial pursuit game I wrote with my Dad that Ledbetter took over development of later). Anyway, yes nostalgic text, sorry.. but +1 for BBS Express here
Tillek
Great list! Thanks for compiling this. Is there a standard location or repository where this list will be maintained at? Or will we just have to find it in this message thread? -JP I'll have it up on my site (www.sfhqbbs.org) but wanted to clear out some of the ? first. Also wanted to know if anyone had suggestions for other information they wanted in there. I'm actually working on a more interactive version but have a few other things I want to tackle first. I'll probably give it till tomorrow night and then put the page (and the link to it) up.
Tillek
130xe to sio2pc to ape I found it just to be easier to go into terminal mode and type in the dialing command. Also, for calling the ST BBS's, Ice T is a good choice for the ANSI (I'm not sure, but it might do VT52 as well, but I always went with the ANSI, especially when calling my own BBS). I'm using TOS v1.04 here on my Mega ST4 and it gives me 512 meg partitions with HDDriver. If you're running something earlier than 1.04 I highly recommend that you upgrade for many, many, good reasons.

For 'daily ST usage' I have a Mega STE Now, although I still have the 520STm. It was definitely pre-1.04. I still have the 520ST in storage; i should probably buy a newer TOS for it... Do you still have the old BBS hard drive? (And I'm just kidding, it is cool you're still using the real Atari.... Got a couple MSTE's myself... Run the BBS off one... But the TT is my main Atari machine now).

Yeah I think it is ok on ice-t. I was trying it with bobterm. Ice tea looks awful on my Atari 130 and the LCD tv I have it plugged into. For the ansi stuff I do just use syncterm. But I am gonna give ice-t a spin on the emulator.

Actually, the 16MB was the boot partition limit, and that was actually for ICD's driver that actually imposed that limit ( and maybe the Atari drivers too). The actual limit for TOS <1.4 was 256mb. HDDriver doesn't have that problem... the boot partition can be as big as TOS allows. Of course then there is BigDos.... Tillek
Thanks for including me. I'll put the list up tomorrow after the keyboard installation. Well, of course I would! Trust me, I know how hard it can be to be "accepted". There are still Atari BBS's here that list long dead BBS's but not mine. Even the older list... It took me awhile to get back on it even after my system was pretty stable again. If you exist, you're on the list!

Faster drive access, many new features, bug fixes, etc. It's also one of the easier upgrades to do. Just determine whether you've got the 6 chip or 2 chip version and away you go. The Mega STe's are the top of the line for the ST's. I still have a soft spot for the original 520 with no drive (nostalgia) and the Mega ST (workhorse). The 520 STm will be on the coffee table connected to the 40" with two GT-100 drives (and perhaps painted black, I haven't decided). But that's not BBS related. But I still dreamed of making the LaST Stand BBS with a stack of megas as a multi-node BBS.

Xebec
None of that really matters... The REAL question... Do you still have the old BBS hard drive? (And I'm just kidding, it is cool you're still using the real Atari.... Got a couple MSTE's myself... Run the BBS off one... But the TT is my main Atari machine now). You have no idea how much I wish I still had my original BBS HDD . Unfortunately it was one of those weird combos where the mechanism died (ST277N?), and I put it on a shelf for a while.. Tried a few years later to stick a 85MB Seagate in there but could never get it working.. If I had the drives today (both of them) I'd actually pay someone to do the full data restoration but stuff happened and.. they're gone. Anything I had on floppy left when a "friend" borrowed by 1040ST and a box or two of disks and then.. disappeared. The only thing I have from my ST BBS left software-wise is the serial # file to Space Empire Elite.. I do have my floppy for BBS Express 850 1.0 though.. (and PCBoard 14.2, 14.5.. ) Very nice on the TT! The TT would have been excellent (albeit $$) for a multi line BBS.. Do you run standard TOS on these machines?
