Atari laser printers (SLM804/SLM605)

Recommended Posts

Help! Someone broke into my apartment and left me with 2 SLM605 printers and 1 SLM804. I really don't know anything about these beasts and, as I'm still waiting for my first ST in the mail, can't yet hook them up. I think they work perfectly, and am eager to use them.

Can anyone tell me which type is the best of the bunch for word processing, etc.?

Thanks! :)

Well, you definately don't need all three, so I'll offer to buy that extra 605 from you, assuming it works when you are able to test it, if not, then I'll take the 804 off your hands if it works. All I have currently is an old Pansonic 24-pin dot-matrix, and I'd like something better, but I haven't been able to get my deskjet working properly with the ST, so an Atari laser printer would be cool.

Are either of these printers able to print in color? For that matter, are any Lazer printers able to print in color? Haven't had any experience with lazer printers...

you can get colour lasers (PS it's laSer not laZer).  But as I recall they are VERY expensive both in price and running cost.

I merely spelled it laZer for fun...didn't think anyone would give a rats *ass... :P If you re-read my post, you'll see I spelled it correctly the first time I used the word...

Technically though, either spelling is perfectly CORRECT. A laSer printer, like cd players and DVD players and a bunch of other devices use lasers and both LASER and LAZER are common, correct spellings of the word, technically. I do think they use the different spellings depending on the application of said laser/lazer. Or, maybe it's just one of those words that's spelled differently depending on whether your using the Queen's english, or American/Australian/S. African/New Zealand spellings...kinda like THEATRE and THEATER, etc.

Nope sorry. Lazer is wrong. anywhere as laser is an acronym

Light

Amplification by

Stimulated

Emissions of

Radiation

I wasn't being picky, just pointing out a common miss spelling :) (I should have slapped a :) in there, sorry :) )

so you see it's not regional, it is actually an Acronym, mush like DOS is not spelt DOZ, the S has some significance.

Truth be told quite a lot (especially cheaper) Laser printers don't actually have a laser in them! they use an LED.
