Albert
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Is there any information about three concept drawings and a short video that doesn't show any gameplay? ..Al
Rybags
Doesn't seem to give anything away, maybe 3 seconds of gameplay in that video. Looks suspiciously like it gives a 3rd Person view of the player's ship, don't know that I'd like that. Really it's wait & see - no point getting your hopes up given that so many remakes of old classics just turn out to be utter crap bundled by a pretty bunch of filmclip sequences. roland p
I'd be surprised if a remake would be as cool as the original.

AtariLeaf
Its a modern space ship shooter with a classic name thrown on it. It could be called anything but it looks like another case of cashing in on a name and nothing more. It actually looks more like a modern version of the PS1 Colony Wars series. +Stephen
Sounds like it will be as big of a steaming pile of shit as Yar's Revenge. Nothing remotely similar to the original, just bastardizing the name. I'd prefer Atari remain dead as opposed to this crap. At least Jeff Minter knows how to update a game and still pay homage to the original.
+wood_jl
How is it that I **KNOW** this will be disappointing? How is it that I'm not the only person who feels this way? I love how out of touch they (the entity now known as "Atari") are with the old franchises and intellectual properties they own. Stamping the name on "some space game" clearly demonstrates this. I also love how clueless the modern gaming press is about those old franchises too. On the Gamespot article linked to above, it says... Star Raiders will be a remake of the classic Atari game from the early 1970s. Who doesn't remember "copyright 1979 Atari" being one of the first things they saw when they first witnessed the game, in large Graphics 2 letters, no less? Rybags
Par for the course for most of these moronic articles covering remakes. The © message is actually in Gr. 1 Don't be surprised that once it's out, you have more articles comparing it to the 2600 Star Raiders. Gregory DG
I'll wait to pass judgment. This could be the most awesome game ever, you can't tell much from 3 seconds of gameplay.

Never had a 360 game that wouldn't even load when the servers are down (which they seem to be most of the time). Atari just can't do anything right. I also prefer for Atari to remain dead. It's only a matter of time.
bmcnett
This was announced a while back. Here's an article about it. From the linked article: We also wanted to give this version a bit more character by building a story arc for the player. Hoo boy, that's what I loved about the original Star Raiders - the story and characters. Who can forget Doc, Zippy the Robot and Mr. Zweebo? Those catch phrases were classic. "Now that's what I call hyperspace!" "What you talking about, Zippy?" I want "Pong II" starring Shia Labeouf as the scrappy protege of "Paddle," who returns in a supporting role. As ridiculous as it is, XBOX 360 3D remakes of Pong with hiphop booty girls, Playboy Playmates, etc. would sell well. 99% of the consumers wouldn't even realize that they were playing Pong. ahaha!
bmcnett
They can redeem the new Star Raiders IF the ship's only onboard computer is an Atari 400 and if it's possible to "win" flying by instruments alone (i.e. playing the original game, projected onto a crap monitor in the 3d cockpit). Of course there should be aspects of the game that reward flying without instruments sometimes...

Jonathan Moses: Star Raiders was such an amazing game for its time. Epic dogfights in space, a galactic map that gave players an open world to explore--all on the Atari 2600. *sigh*

I bet more people would buy it then And... nothin' wrong with booty girls, ain't it?
sack-c0s
I know the preferred version of Star Raiders is on the 8-bit Atari computer, but credit where it's due the 2600 version was pretty damn playable and I enjoyed it a lot. It ought to get at least some love and recognition Not feeling that inspired by the remake though Edited February 11, 2011 by sack-c0s
Mclaneinc
NO NO NO... How dare they desecrate the great Star Raiders, the rather tacky Last Starfighter game with Star Raiders 2 slapped on it was bad enough but a flash game construction kit shooter??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo We will be lucky even if there's a galactic map..... I hate the idea just as much as I hate the idea they are going to remake "Jaws" the film, a film of epic standards of acting, suspense, fear, photography and of course direction. Ignore the dress code in the town and concentrate on the boat part with the 3 of them, that film looks like it was made today...
Rybags
Game remakes, film remakes. Same formula. Milk more money from the public by rehashing someone else's good ideas, because we've run out of new ones. It's only a downloadable game, not a full price job, so I guess hopes shouldn't be too high anyway.
ToddUGA
I used to play the heck out of Star Raiders on the 5200. It was one of the few games that actually worked great with the 5200 joystick.

carmel_andrews
Just as well Doug Neubauer isn't working for Atari anyone or anywhere near the games industry, He'd turn in his grave if he saw the motherload that is this remake Let's see ARM (originally Acorn) bastardize the classic space trading game 'Elite' (seeming as though it's star raiders inspired) Atari have been prostituting themselves for the best part of 15 years, what difference is this pile of porn going to make
Havok69
The Atari brand should really just go away, it's just a bad joke now. This is NOT Star Raiders.
