supposed vaporware that I know was made because I have seen

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I would just like to mention cause I was reading some info at the Atari historical society site, that items like the STylus writing tablet and CDAR504 CD ROM did exsist and must have been somewhat available. I know this because years ago my local Atari dealer had the items in his store and frequently let me use them or borrow them over the weekend. This is in Canada, and the dealership was called the Digital Centre, and the proprietor, Tony Cerecca always got in the latest gadgets from Atari Canada. In fact the only things I really did not see that were advertised were things like the Abaq transputer, presumably because it was extremely expensive and a few peripherals like the VR helmet for the Jag, etc. I just wish at the time I had the money to purchase some of the items, I do not know what became of them, Tony still operates his business, but sells PC's and Mac's from his home now instead of running a store, wether he returned the unsold merchandice to Atari Canada before it folded or still has items tucked away is unknown to me.

I know the ATW exists. I have seen a site or two with people showing them off. Looks like a funky PC Case made by Atari with some bizarre alien internals.

I sooo want one of them

I rember reading a review of the CDAR501 when it was released here in the UK in ST User magazine. The picture showed the French dictionary CD in the Unit, and it looked just like an old CD player (looked like a new CD player at the time obvioulsy).

B&C Atari Sales has a few CDR504A's left in their warehouse, give Bruce or Cathy a call or email and ask about them, I don't know how much they are, I think the last time I was in their warehouse I saw 2-3 left. They are gorgeous to the say the least, extrememly well built and the controls actually are detachable for wireless control.

Also B&C I think may still have a few Sparrow's (Atari Falcon prototypes) in the warehouse too that they might be willing to part with for some serious $$$ though.

The other thing that may still have are some of the ABC Portable computers still in original boxes, again check with them and see if they still have any and what the prices are.

There were a couple of cases, one was a big old ugly generic case, the other was actually an IBM PS/2 Model 80 case. I will be posting some sketches from Ira Velinski onto the Atari Museum sometime soon, they are designs of various cases for the ABAQ ATW-800 Atari Transputer, some are VERY impressive and even have styling lines similar to the Atari Portfolio.
