What Is My Collection Worth?

Tempest

Recommended Posts

NOTE: I'm not selling anything yet, just thinking about it and making plans.

I think the time has come for me to start downsizing my collection. I hardly ever have to time to play with it anymore and when I do use multi-carts or other devices that don't require physical media. Priorities have changed for me, and eventually when I move (still far in the future) I'm not going to be able to take my massive collection with me.

That being said I need to start figuring out what things are generally worth (it's been a long time since I've bought anything for my collection). My collection is MASSIVE and I'm not getting rid of everything, so I figured I'd start with the 2600, 5200, and 7800 stuff. I have tons of label variations that aren't listed, so those might add a little value (no picture label Sears Superman unfortunately). I'm also keeping most of the hardware so I'm not going to list that. Eventually when I do the actual selling I'll get some pictures up and more details, but for now assume everything is excellent shape (most items are):

When the time comes, what's the best way to go about this? I want to avoid ebay even though I'd probably get more money because I simply don't trust it anymore. When I sold off my Neo-Geo collection I did it through the Neo-Geo.com website by posting pictures of everything asking people to make offers and that worked out well. This time I thought I'd do something similar on AA and DP but this collection is much more massive.

Anyway enough with my rambling, here is the 2600, 5200, and 7800 stuff. Like I said in the beginning, I'm not selling anything yet, I'm just looking for rough estimates on what everything would be worth if it all sold (individually obviously).

I wouldn't sell it but I wonder how this would work. You prepare a big auction on here. You make it one big auction but everyone bids on each individual item. That way people can build their own lot and the people looking for just one game would bid too. You put up some of your most rare and desired games as a raffle within the auction. Instead of selling raffle tickets, you give out tickets to the winners based on their winning bids. That way people aren't just bidding on games but buying a chance to win prizes. You set the auction to end maybe two weeks, a month, or whatever but without the ability to snipe at the last minute. At the end of the auction you do a three day count down of going once, going twice, sold. A day after the end of the auction you say going once, the end of the next day you say going twice, and at the end of the third day you say sold. If within those three days anyone bids on anything you start the count down over. It would give people plenty of time to get their paychecks and bid, people would have an incentive to bid high because the higher they bid the more raffle tickets they get, and the auction will die on it's own when everyone maxes out. After the auction is over and everyone has paid, you count how many raffle tickets each winning bidder got from their winning bids. Also, during the auction, allow the people that can't afford or need the item with the lowest bid that can be done to purchase raffle tickets and have purchases of tickets included in starting over the count down. I don't know if it would work but I would probably bid. I may bid an outrageous price just for Combat to be sure I won and my tickets were counted. But if I were you I wouldn't sell.

I'm kind of shocked you're asking for advice on value, since I assumed you are one of the bigger collectors (and a moderator!) I figured you as an expert! :)

I haven't paid attention to prices in a long time. I really don't know what current trends are or anything like that. I figured more active collectors might know. What's hot right now? What's not?

What would I have to say/do to get you to consider keeping it? Wrong time right now. Even if you really did want to get rid of it, this is a buyers market. Sales are horrific right now.

Well that's another thing to consider, I have no urgency to sell right now so I can wait. Like I said, I don't know how the market is right now.

I call dibs on the Yoshi action figure!

He's not for sale. He was a birthday present from my brother (the only gaming related thing he ever gave me). :)

Let us know when you get to the a8 stuff :)

That's probably not happening. I think I want to keep all the 8-bit stuff. At least for now.
