Dantaipan
Does anyone know anything about an 800XL that takes a 5-pin power supply. I picked up an 800XL unit without a PS and the only replacement ones I can find are 7-pins. No I'm not looking at the monitor plug, check it out: note: you may have to turn your brightness up to see the pin holes:
Callipygous
Never seen that before Perhaps it is not a US model?
Dantaipan
I bought it at a thrift in Canada. The FCC ID is BPA72R800XL. UPDATE: I looked under the hood and I now suspect that someone replaced the 7-pin with a 5-pin. Is it possible their original PS burnt out and, not able to find a 7-pin PS they replaced the connector to power it with a different type of PS? Curt Vendel
Sounds like what you're running across are not Atari XL/XE power supplies, but ST power supplies. You can purchase a replacement Atari XL/XE power supply from either B&C: www.myatari.com or from Best Electronics www.best-electronics-ca.com Curt

Hopefully, they didn't damage the machine using a non-standard power supply, though. Mitch http://atari7800.atari.org
Dantaipan
PROBLEM SOLVED. I found a standard 7-pin PS at a surplus store, broke off the top two pins to reduce it to 5 and now the 800XL powers up fine.
