Our game this round is Millipede. Play on default settings with starting score of 0 (ZERO). You will have to reset starting score after each game. As this is an A8 conversion, the A8 game will be allowed if you do not have the 5200 version. Emulation is allowed as is whatever control scheme you wish. No autofire.

Round ends Sunday November 13th 2011 @ 9pm EST

Current HSC record: as usual, beat it for a bonus point!
Millipede -
thursday83 339,805(broken)
Current: 371,672 trbb

Don't have the game on 5200 or A8? Play NES or 2600 version and prove it using the same settings for a bonus/participation point. High score gets bragging rights. Only one point to a player from this challenge.

If I am understand correctly, restarting means once you're done, you cant continue at 40k, 60k or wherever point the game will allow you to begin at ?

I believe I have 2600 millipede... Might be sealed though, what a better time to open it up !

Yes. You've got the idea.
The reason I've specified resetting the score after each game is that part of the challenge is working and surviving the lower levels until you get to where the real points are. I've put the alt. version challenge in primarily for the 2600 players since Zero hasn't been able to run the HSC lately. I'm sure many are itching to play. Perhaps even a few will see our 5200 games and join us someday.

I got an early start on this one: 223,564

I'm a little disappointed that River Raid lost yet again, but Millipede is definitely a lot of fun. Looking forward to improving my skills on this one.

Opening shot: 234,846

I'm using the 5200 cart, but may dabble with the others.

I'd like to see River Raid at some point. It'll get a couple more chances to come. That's the only port of it I really like to play. The others all cause massive hand cramps/pain.
Most votes were split between those 2, but all got at least one vote. I'll reprise those in next poll with another game tossed into the mix.

I was going to vote for mario bros or mrs pacman, but since neither was going to win I voted for this instead. River Raid seems kind of fun but it is probably my worst game so far in terms of score.

Bumped my score up to 258,864. Reaching 300,000 clearly is going to be a challenge.

Congrats again to oyamafamily for another stunning 2600 high score!

Looks like most of us are fairly even-matched. Makes for a good contest. :) I'm also seeing some excellent 2600 play as well. I'll fire that one up when I get some extra time. :)
I see modesty is still in fashion. ;)

...and Centipede sucks! (except the INTV port) :P

Seems to double the speed at the 300ks level, very tough to hit that HSC record...!

Is there a limit to the free lives you collect along the way??

I like this Millipede, it's fun.

easy controls and no unforgiving collision detections...

This port and the A8 it is derived from are my favorite versions, though I have to give some credit to the old Gameboy version on the Centipede/Millipede cart. I'll also allow that version for the alternate bonus.

Extra lives earned are unlimited as far as I can tell.

Played the 2600 port last night. Didn't do so well and it doesn't seem as good as I remembered it being. :(

Is it just me or is the 2600 version quite a bit more difficult than the 5200? Even the NES was decently more difficult.

Actually, the 2600 port seems just to slow for me in some ways and I get "bored" into losing lives. I got a game of it in that I can live with.

Hi everyone!

thought I'd have a go as it's one of my all time favourite games (I'm an A8 user PAL)
279,930 (oh for a few mushrooms more...)
Millipede279930.jpg
A8 users should play the 1984 released version, not the 1983 proto that is much easier ;)
Millipede1984ver.jpg

by coincidence we are also playing the 5200 Dig Dug in the 8-bit HSC so of course everyone is welcome to post a score there too. The A8 HSC Millipede record is 358,092 set by darthkur.

Will have to dig out the Trak-Ball for another bash at this classic

trbb :)
