Galaxian

You feel that spine-tingling exhilaration every time you play GALAXIAN in an arcade. Now the same sensation is yours at home. Wave after wave of Drones, Emissaries, Hornets and Commanders come winging in from deep space. Skillfully, you slide your ship right and left with your joystick, dodging their fire and blasting them out of the universe.

Home court advantage? Nah.. Centipede is just a game that I played growing up and like others Galaxian was a title I passed to play Galaga.

The advanced level is difficult which is nice so the games are short and make for nice short sessions. If this were the setting on an arcade cabinet it sure would make a lot of $ per hour for sure.

That's the challenge of tournaments - having to excel at games you're not always well practiced at. Galaxian is one of my favourite games and I even prefer it to Galaga in some ways.

The ColecoVision port is excellent and Skill 3 throws you right into the deep end.

Deep end??? It throws us Galaxian noobs to the sharks (Great Whites at that)...

And yes, it does seem to freak out a little (the game) if you get blown up after taking out the last Galaxian in a wave before it draws the new wave. (I got some white lines in the corner on one play from that). Not sure if it's the game or MESS.

Galaxian seems to have a fairly limited set of enemy moves and as such can be mastered without too much practice - one of the reasons I set set the difficulty so high. Play at the lowest skill level to get some practice then move back to advanced. At the higher skill level it just places you further into the game (indicated by the number of flags in the bottom right of the screen - one flag per wave of enemies).

I have played the CV Galaxian many times before both on the console and via blueMSX and have never seen any graphical glitches. Try another emulator - sounds like it may be MESS.
