Ok, the U1MB is working again. Thankfully!

I powered the Atari up just before pressing the programming button. No errors.

Going into the UI1MB menu on the Atari has not changed.

How do I know the new JED file is active?

This proces is everything but easy and simple.

Downloading a 1GB (and 6GB eventually) file seems very big for updating this device.

Now that you have the JED updated, you need to update the Flash Memory with the V2 ROM.

Download The Rom Generator here: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/201854-the-rom-generator/page__st__50?do=findComment&comment=2638857

and use the V2 Rom from here: http://spiflash.org/atari/ultimate1mb-v2.rom

The Rom Generator replaces the Stand Alone U1MB flasher...

Done and U1MB is updated!

For test purposes I loaded BASIC #2 with Missile Commander, that seem to work...

I'd guess that it would be too much work.

But if there would be a seperate U1MB version for the XEGS, then the free space could be used for more BASIC slots.

I'll try if I can repeat the process with my second U1MB.

I'll let you know the result

Ok! I could repeat the process.

This it what I did.

The parallel-programmer was already connected to the PC.

The Atari is off and the U1MB is NOT connected to the parallel programmer.

First I skipped all the dialog-boxes.

Created a new project, clicked on OK on the next dialog-box.

I get an error that the xlinx-chip could not be detected etc.etc.

Right-click mouse, "Add an xlinx product".

Load the v2 JED file.

Connect the Atari U1MB to the parallel-programmer.

Turn on the Atari.

Right-click on the Xlinx-chip and click on Program.

This worked for me.

next time just have atari connected to the programmer and powered up, it will be even simplier then

Not in my case.

When I tried to autodetect the Xlinx, it always found a device it could not recognize.

When the text "Unknown Bypass".

If you want, I could do it again and make some screenshots.

Today I finally got the two cables I ordered on eBay.

I soldered them nicely, connected it to the Atari and PC.

Powered-up, started iMPACT, created a new project.

And magic happened! It detected the right xlinx-chip.

I had to select a .JED file.

And finally programmed the U1MB. (again) :-)

After some conversation with Sebastian, he revealed to me the secret about the XEGS slots. icon_thumbsup.gif

First must be closed the XEGS jumper on Ultimate board. Also one of the four OS must be from XEGS, specifically OS4. Then within Bios of Ultimate1MB just press SELECT key and after C for cold boot. The game appears!!!

The same when power machine on with SELECT down, and from SELF TEST mode with SELECT + RESET keys.

Thanks to Candle! icon_shades.gif

XEGS rom above

The XEGS ROM was removed. Any ideas where to get it?

A question, what are the disadvantages when I set the jumper to "XEGS"?

I cannot find a XEGS manual using google only briefly). I assume you start the built-in XEGS game via "SELECT. So can I use QMeg when my U1MB is in XEGS-mode?

Hello Creature XL

The jumper is probably needed, because the XEGS uses one ROM for both BASIC and OS ROM and uses two of the pins on the MMU differently. Plus you might loose the MPD signal, as the XEGS doesn't have that signal.

Sincerely

Mathy
