VectrexWraps are back!

I just got an email from Michele that says that those cool VectrexWraps are being made again. I have one of the first run of them that was 1/2 Y.A.S.I. and 1/2 Protector, those aren't going to be made anymore (keeping them rare). But now there will be, initially, 3 options - a Y.A.S.I. wrap, a Protector wrap and, my favorite choice, a Scramble wrap. I can't wait to buy a Scramble one, though I'm hoping that there will be a Space Wars or Star Castle one later.

What good news. I always wanted the YASI / Protector wrap!

Could you explain to me what the Y.A.S.I Protector thing means? Are there some of these that are stickers and others that are similar to window clings? I read over the site and it almost seemed like a person needed to be "in the loop" to understand fully what was being offered. I sent an email. This ia a very cool looking product. I may buy even though I don't own a Vectrex .

Looks nice, and my wife thinks it's really nice too.. Always a plus... ;-)

@save2600, definitely on the "sprucing up a less than perfect" vec. My vec has some dings and such. No cracks, but it's seen hard times.. So this is really nice...

Didn't see an answer for this and not sure if you got one, so here's my take at it..

The YASI/Protector wrap was a single wrap set made in 2007 I think. One side of the Vectrex had a Protector (Defender-esque) image, the other side had a YASI (Space invaders-esque) image.

The new wraps being made are separate, so Serious above bought the Protector wrap. I bought the YASI wrap. There is also a Scramble wrap for this run.

They are individual sets.

Putting it on was a bit nerve rattling. Mine isn't perfectly straight with perfect widths between all sections. I was "scary nervous" about stretching it or something... But no problems and it looks great once installed.

They are all kind of like window cling stickers.

Sometimes when applying, I'd put one on, thought it was too far off, and remove and re-apply it.

That's why some people are getting multiple sets, so they can swap them..

I don't see myself doing that tho.. :-) I'm not the artsy type, so now that it's on and looks good, I ain't touching it..

All in all, a very nice addition..

As I keep my Vec on the shelf in the office, but in full view of the living room all the time, this is a nice extra!

Got the YASI and Protector wraps.. Really nice. I almost ordered the scramble one as well for my 3rd vectrex. However, if they make more (star Castle or others, I'll reserve it for one of those).

One thing that is missing is application instructions. I recommend cleaning the vectrex well and then do a final wipe down with alcohol. One thing to note is that the vinyl stretches real easy, as a result, initial install resulted in my wraps extending beyond the edges (eeek!) I learned quickly to smooth out bubbles and such using great care. Otherwise it fits nice on one end and then stretches as you smooth it out. Be careful.

I am curious how well the wraps will hold up to fading and UV degradation.

Sounds like you want to take as much care with these as you do when applying sideart on arcade machines. Apply generous amounts of Windex/glass cleaner to the surface, which makes it easy to squeegee out the air bubbles and position properly. Sets nicely then as the glass cleaner dissipates.

Great point and tips....

I did have to find some pics online (The News section of the Vectrexwraps website had some) of the YASI screen borders so I knew for sure which ones went on which side (Yeah, I would have figured it out eventually, but)..

And I was concerned about the stretching..

Also, I had one tiny spot that wasn't quite cut. I'd recommend having a knife/razor/etc handy just in case.. I was able to get mine free, but I probably should have cut it to be safe..

I did do the cleaning first. I saw a video online that showed application and mentioned cleaning..

(Although my Vec was dirty and needed it anyway..)

But I agree that a webpage with pics, links to videos, instructions would be a great plus...

What, you let that evil SUNLIGHT near your VEC!!!! ;-)
