Super Game Module now available for order

Seriously if you are on Mac get yourself Parallels or even better VMWare Fusion and make a Windows XP or 7 sub host. Use BlueMSX as the emulator as it has a debugger.

My preference is assembler - tniasm and I use ConText as the editor.

I have written more updated tools (that I am not quite ready to release) but they also run on Windows only as they use .Net.

Well, I feel stupid now. I watched the NewColeco youtube video on how to make your own "Hello World" program MONTHS ago, but I didn't know what tniasm was (I was thinking it was just like any other compiler, with a million stupid configuration switches and a hundred hoops to jump through.

Seriously, this compiler is as simple as it gets!

BTW, I am running Parallels (don't like VMWare anymore, I just switched over a few weeks ago) with Win XP. After the crap I went through trying to get SDCC and Cygwin running properly, I had given up (limited time to work on it, so I just got frustrated and stopped) I didn't think I'd really get going on ColecoVision programming anytime soon.

So now that I've made my first Hello World title screen, I'm going to go through the other NewColeco videos. Anything else you guys would recommend? I already have most of the tech docs. Any game source code to learn from?

Thanks again!!

"Hi guys! I'm back! Sorry, no time for explanations, I've got these ebay orders I have to fill! Then I'll get right to you guys, I PROMISE! And by the way, blame the guy who bought ten of these SGM's from me, it's his fault that I didn't fulfill your orders on time! Oh, and by the way, I'm ready to start accepting payment for 2nd run orders, which will be taken care of, well, who really knows these things, after all!...I've had a hell of a year, don't you know?...well, I guess you could have known, had I taken the ten minutes to post here in AA to alleviate any concerns! By the way, make those cheques payable to me, Eduardo Mello, ok? I promise, I PROMISE that you'll get your SGM just as soon as...well, who can really say, you know?...life sure is unpredictable, after all! Off to ebay, talk soon!"

...wow.

Eduardo, you don't deserve a dime from anyone on this website after the disappearing act you pulled, regardless of the reason. It's inexcusable.

And to the members of AA who are considering sending your money to Opcode for an SGM, please do go back and read this 68 page monster before you do so. If there's anything to be learned from this embarrassing debacle, it's "buyer beware".

It will be good to know when ALL the first run supporters get their SGMs, if that ever happens. As for the second run, well...at least they know what they're in for.

+500...

Guys give the man a break -- at least for his 1st day

Must take some guts to come back knowing you're gonna assaulted by hords of wolves in fury...

It's only videogames after all -- not your medicare

That said, I'd be curious to know if dk arcade is still in the pipeline? :)

First of all, Yurkie said what he said in post #1568 three days BEFORE Eduardo appeared out of thin air. Some might say it takes some guts to take a LOT of money from people and then disappear for a long time. It's NOT only videogames, it's the fact real money was taken from people, then there was no words, no updates, no nothing for how long? What part of that is so hard to comprehend?

He's here.. that's all that matters. He'll explain his reasons when hes ready im sure, right now he seems to be getting down to business but why go stirring shit up again? C'mon dude..

Being here is most certainly NOT all that matters. Getting everyone who paid for their SGMs is most of what matters.

I'm glad he's here and I hope he follows through on everything he's saying.

I agree with you !

I paid for 2 (First run) but I have to wait (2nd version... scart one). Right. I'm fine with that BUT I want to receive a message to know when I will receive them.

Guys, if you want to send money to Opcode before I received my 2 SGM, YOU ARE JUST CRAZY ! So, please, don't send money before each of us paid receive their SGM.

I'd expand on that a bit: giving the community confidence that SGMs will be available, now and in the future, is what matters.

What sane game author would target a platform that exists in only double-digits? Sure, it's grand that MSX games can be ported[1] nearly effortlessly now ... but what good is a game that can't be played on obtainable hardware?

My advice to Eduardo is to fulfil his current obligations (i.e., ship a SGM to everyone who has paid for one -- stop the eBay govno) and open the hardware specifications. I'm going to publish my work anyway, but it's better to have original specs as opposed to reverse-engineered specs.

[1] "Ported" in this context should probably mean "pirated", where "pirated" means "MSX games written by others with the VDC and AY addresses changed where appropriate". No disrespect intended; that's my take on the purpose of the SGM.

I agree. I paid for a second run SGM just shy of a year ago. I won't even consider making any more purchases from opcode (games, etc.) until a) I receive the SGM I paid for b) opcode has completed all his outstanding orders c) looks like opcode will be around for the future (actively involved)

That said. We don't know what happened in his personal life. (I have no desire to know) He has expressed a desire to make things right. (complete orders) So I think the name calling stuff needs to stop and we need to give him the benefit of the doubt that he will complete his obligations. (finish 1st run sgm's and paid for 2nd run sgm's) Just don't send any more money till obligations have been met.

My understanding is the SGM's going on eBay were paid for and an arrangement was made to list them on eBay instead of shipping them to the buyer. Therefore the eBay sales are indeed part Eduardo's effort to "fulfill his current obligations."

*shrug* So says Eduardo. I wouldn't consider him to be a credible source at this point.

The SGM's being sold on eBay for a person who purchased them were mentioned long ago so it's only a surprise to those who don't read all the messages here. It's not a new thing that Eduardo suddenly decided to do.

This is my last non-technical post on this subject:

Again, *shrug*. You folks have been taken for a ride, and you're in denial. That's completely understandable.

I understand the desire to think that everyone has the best intentions ... and I do believe that Eduardo did not start this project with the intention of defrauding the community.

What has transpired after that, though, is completely unconscionable. He's stolen your money, folks. He probably didn't intend to do so, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions and is a slippery slope, etc.

He's selling units that YOU PAID FOR on eBay. He says that he had a deal with a anonymous benefactor to do so. Do you have a second non-Eduardo source for that? (it's late here, I'm jetlagged, I'm not going to trawl through 60+ pages to find the original statement).

I believe that he's going to disappear again. He may very well have a snit-fit after learning that there is an effort to clone the SGM, and leave in a huff. He's done it before. Will you defend him then?

I'd love to be proved wrong. I'd love to see all of the people who paid for their SGM to receive them tomorrow, FedEx, at Eduardo's expense. I'd love to see the specs published so that game authors can profit from writing games for a ColecoVision that looks like an MSX. The SGM is worthless without games, after all.

Unfortunately, I'm a realist, and I don't think that will happen.

Again, this is my last non-technical post on this subject. When I get caught up with this timezone, I'll post what I've got.

Eduardo obviously realizes that he strained the patience of this community well beyond its limits, and I'm sure he's willing to face the music. All I hope is that we will all maintain a civilized discussion, and that Eduardo will keep us updated regularly over the next few weeks.

It would be helpful if someone could quote the original statement that 10 SGMs would be sold on eBay per the request of the buyer.

As for a second source, I'd be somewhat surprised if the buyer would reveal himself/herself in this thread because Eduardo intimated that any profits from the eBay sale would go to the buyer.

The timing of the original post is important because if the bulk sale were announced early on, why are they going up for sale now (the first three sold back in December 2013), when the pent up demand is its highest? Why wouldn't they have been listed earlier?

If the bulk sale happened recently, I can see how it would be a sort of cash infusion, explaining the timing of the listings.

I don't want to ruin your rant, but Eduardo indeed published the SGM specs http://atariage.com/forums/topic/203851-super-game-module-technical-forum/ post #1 discusses RAM mapper and post #30 discusses sound chip.
