If Waggie never turns up again, make sure the cops question the owner of the only known cart.

I’m still here, although I changed my username to match what I use pretty much everywhere else. I’ve been teaching myself photoshop and would like to get this pushed out this year. I’ll post a draft cover tomorrow when I get to the computer that has the file.

Well from what I gather and IIRC from reading this thread, all of the code came from the patent office so really anyone could do the same thing Waggie did if they really wanted to.

Thats actually a good point. And truthfully, weve pretty much reached that point here. Were talking years now as far as how long this delay has lasted. So whatever was or is the cause of the holdup is irrelevant now.

I havent chimed in much (with content anyhow) because its been dead in the water for so long. It seemed pointless. For me, personally, the nanosecond my eyes saw emulated screenshots was the end of my involvement.

Well, I think thats the box art, not the cart label. The cart itself should remain the same. Granted, I also dont like it, but I rarely like any made-up art anyhow. And truthfully, it never really matters to me anyhow as I immediately destroy these made up things upon receiving them. (I discard the box & manual, crack open the cart, and transfer the rom to the proper donor cart with the proper label) Only then is it welcomed into my collection.

LOL

Supergun, sometimes you can be so tactful.

I'm sure the repro designers will be glad to read this.

I admit that my choice of words can sometimes come off a bit rough around here.

I tend to do it when I am trying to stress a point.

But to better clarify what I was saying,

here is a perfect example:

This is a CORRECT Atari 2600 Lady Bug cartridge. It uses the proper cartridge shell and utilizes the appropriate label.

This is a CRAP Atari 2600 Lady Bug cartridge. Wrong shell, wrong layout, wrong logo, fake art, etc.

Any Questions?

'course I get your point, but I like the art in the second one better.

Also before this gets crazy, I think it's safe to say that we all have our own criteria for our own collections and it's partly personal. If we want to delve into the validity of this, probably best for a separate thread.

The "correct one looks ugly and cheap, the "crap" is looking great.

Why should top modern homebrews, which often surpass the quality of games from back then by far, fall back to mediocre labels of the past?

Agreed. Its simply a difference of opinion. We can just leave it at that. (regarding aesthetic preferences)

As for home brew games themselves, (which was never the topic at hand here btw, I just happened to choose one for my artistic example), todays programmers have better understanding, shared knowledge, better equipment, newer technology, and are without looming deadlines and not under corporate pressure. Etc. So yeah, they have the interest, time, and ability to make better games. Nobody here knew that. Thanks for pointing that out.

CaptainBreakout is putting a label together for this and gave permission to post this draft. I've also gone back to the drawing board with the box cover to give it a similar feel.

Is there a specific reason the person's back is shown instead of their front facing forward? If the person was facing forward I would personally like it a lot more.

That's probably because the man has an Alien chestburster coming out of him and had his face ripped off by zombies! Or is Number One from The Prisoner. I'm more disturbed by the cakes at the top of the label. Why is one of the layers so flat? And the other one so melted? Did someone leave them out in the rain? We will never have the recipe again.

How would he blow out the candles facing away from them? Maybe they could make an alternate version of the game where you move right and left trying to splat cakes on the back of your head.
