G1_Rocinante
OK, so I found this over the weekend.. It says Pengo 1-4 on it but when I fired it up.. it is the 1983 first version according to www.atariprotos.com Here are some screen shots. Everything appears to be legit about it. I don't want to breach the label to open it up though. It is heavier than a normal 2600 cart. Any ideas what this is worth and does anyone know if any others exist? I have looked online and saw that someone had a copy of the 1-4-84 version but I didn't find anyone to have this first release. I am looking to sell it if the price is right. Is this the only known copy?
CPUWIZ
You don't need to ruin the label, Lab Loaners do not have screws in them.
G1_Rocinante
How would I open it then?
atari181
It's the 1-4-84 version , pretty sure of it. The 1983 is probably the copyright date

atari181
Hmm, you're right looks like it may be this one http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/pengo/earlyproto.htm Looks like it, but has the 1-4. Kinda interesting?
G1_Rocinante
Hmm, you're right looks like it may be this one http://www.atariprot.../earlyproto.htm That is what I have been saying. As far as I have seen, I have not been able to track down any others online. I might have the only copy? I did manage to find one person who has the 1-4-84 version. G1_Rocinante
OK, so while reluctant... I did crack it open. It is the real deal. Even though the sticker on the inside says 1-4 and the sticker on the outside.. it is the earlier 1983 prototypr burned on the EPROM. Sorry for the crappy pics.. my cellphone camera sucks.
Mayhem
Looks like the PAL Pengo proto I have too...
Rom Hunter
Yep, that's the Arcade Title Screen version of Pengo. Strange that it's inside a lab loaner dated 1-4, which is the date of the other proto. If your proto is in PAL format, than you have indeed something special. AFAIK the only one known to exist with this type of title screen is in NTSC. Could you dump the ROM of your proto?
Mayhem
I'll recheck before putting my foot in mouth regarding the true nature of the proto, and boot it up over the weekend to make sure It came from Marco, so I guess he didn't dump any of his items during or before he sold them. I'm fairly sure it's PAL because I was interested to get it DUE to the PAL version of the game being so hard to find.
19rsn007
contact Keoni19, send it over to him and let him dump it. He has made a dumping device that's interfaced to an arduino which can just dump carts without opening them.
