+Mitch
Does anyone know how many official BIOS version were released for the Jag? I had always assumed there was only one but tonight I happened to have my Jag open and I noticed the BIOS was labeled 700048-003A. Since an "A" at the end usually means it's a revision I decided to dump it and it is indeed different than the Jag BIOS that is floating around the net. Incidentally, mine is dated 1994. sh3-rg
What rev was TOM? 1.1? And what model of Jaguar, K or M?
Zerosquare
There are at least two different versions of the Jag BIOS : http://webpages.charter.net/jag-udg/
Shamus
@Mitch: Please post it! That is, assuming it's different from the ones posted in Zero's link EDIT: It seems that the common one (also the one VJ uses) is the K series version. It'll be interesting to see what the differences are between the two! Edited February 23, 2013 by Shamus
kskunk
There was at least one BIOS revision that I'm aware of. My oldest K Jag doesn't initialize memory properly at power up, but my newer K Jag does. Also, there are some differences in video timing and initialization in the logo sequence of the older BIOSes, which (according to comments in the source code), were changed to help PAL. I don't think the K/M model numbers are a reliable way to know which BIOS you have, as they apparently changed BIOSes before changing to M boards. - KS
Zerosquare
according to comments in the source codeSo, I assume the BIOS source code is available somewhere? I don't remember seeing it before. How did you get it?
kskunk
So, I assume the BIOS source code is available somewhere? I don't remember seeing it before. How did you get it? I found it while sifting through the Atari HQ CD. There's a Jaguar_CD folder that contains a number of copied hard disks. Most of the disks are concerned with CD BIOS development, but (perhaps for reference?) there is also a BOOTROM folder containing parts of the boot source code. Sadly, I've never found the intro source code, the part that does the falling Atari logo. But scattered around those folders you can also find the source code for the cartridge key/signature check in both the Jaguar BIOS and the Jag CD BIOS. They differ in a sneaky and interesting way, which helped me understand why the early Skunkboards did not work in a Jag CD. Also, you can find the source code to the diagnostic ROMs used in production. I could go on. It's fun stuff!
+Mitch
Zerosquare got it. Mine matches the M series console ROM that is on the page he linked to (And yes, mine is an M series Jag; Tom is 1.0). I've never seen that one before only the older one that matches the K series console ROM. Thanks for the info. It kind if reminds me of the 5200 BIOS revisions, commonly known as the 4port BIOS and 2port BIOS, even though you can find 2port systems with the "4port BIOS". Probably both the Jag and 5200 BIOS labels should be "Original" and "Rev A". Mitch
+Mitch
A little off topic but... Just for reference, here's a CRC list of all the carts in my collection. I don't own any Jag protos so the ones listed are from the repros. Just out of curiosity has anyone dumped the original Cybermorph cart to see if it's any different? I don't own that one. Shamus
Don't know why, but for some reason the forum software eats the formatting of stuff that's in a monospace font, and in random ways. Speaking of CD BIOS, does anyone know if Yak's source for the VLM is available anywhere? The file that supposedly has it (that's on Atari Museum, called VLM Source) only has Yak's binary blob. What that zip file actually does have is the source for the CD BIOS. But no Yak source.

Zerosquare
Maybe if someone asked Jeff Minter nicely... maybe send him a plush animal made with actual llama wool... ^^
