+Gemintronic
I should have a GP2X BLU coming soon. Will report back with new info. The Canoo doesn't excite me compared to the PSP. I wanted the GP2X BLU due to using normal batteries.
Hyperboy
I had a Caanoo and got rid of it. It had proprietary charger (like PSP) but my main issue was the screen bezel/case front was smaller than the screen so it actually cut real estate out of LCD, must have been shitty quality control. JXD 7300s rocks!
mckafka99
Picked up a PSP 2000 at Gamestop this past weekend. Came with OFW 6.3. Updated to OFW 6.6, went to the site below and in very little time had a very nice portable emulation device: 2600, 5200, 800(XL), 7800, Lynx, Odyssey2, Intellivision, Colecovision, Mame. PSP CFW Setup: http://wololo.net/cfw4dummies/ (Very simple, worked without issue)
TheObscureGamer
If you're getting a PSP,a 3000,Go or even better a PSVita is the ONLY way to go.for one they have better screens and some games benefit from the 333,480 and 800 MHZ of the 3000/GO/Vita(one some emulators like Mame4all,some of the games like Contra are slow on my 1 and 2000 PSP's but faster on the newer ones). Here are some of my favorite emulator, homebrew apps/games: Capcom CPS1/CPS2 emulator:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42NBI7COjpo honestly I had no hope for these emulators. If my 3000 could not run Contra or Bionic Commando, 80's arcade games, then what are the changes it could run games the likes of Marvel VS. Capcom,DarkStalkers,Aliens,Ghouls N Ghosts etc?.Well to my amazement not only does all the CPS1 and 2 games run,but at perfect speed(if there not at perfect speed I couldn't tell a difference).Links:http://tinyurl.com/onhhwl4 http://tinyurl.com/oujwxt4 Mame emulator:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgPEhSXCtcA You would think that if the above emulator can run all the games perfectly than an emulator that has 80's arcade games would run perfectly aswell right?.Well no it does not. Here is a list of games that comes with the emulator(some more not on this list work but not just any game works, only certain games work ):http://shrib.com/IXRY0Q7K.now some of the games like the Pac-mans,Donkey Kongs,Frogger,Burger Time,Dig Doug,Space invaders etc. ran perfectly while games like Xybots,Contra, bionic Commando,Star wars and such ran at a slow speed(still playable but not at a perfect speed as the other games). Some games(the Stern games like Berzerk and joust did not work at all).overall it's not bad but it could be better(playing them on a Go or even better a Vita may make them run at the correct speed as they have more MHZ).Link:http://tinyurl.com/nmcb4v3 Neo Geo emulator:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbtfSnmD1k0 I personally haven't tried this emulator out yet but from the video it seems to be running at normal speed.I dunno if all the Neo Geo arcade games run on the emulator but from the looks of it,it runs quite a few classics.Link:http://tinyurl.com/lwoeajz Edited August 29, 2014 by TheObscureGamer
mckafka99
For my 2000, I didnt setup mame using the all inclusive setup linked above, but grabbed a copy of just the Mame4all 9 R2 emulator archive itself (no games), loaded the usermode/noNeoGeo version (the archive comes with 4 different versions), added on the .sam versions of the samples and used versions of games I have had for well over a decade (I dont even recall what version they are) and havent had any issues with any of the older games (which is my particular target), including Berzerk and Joust. In hindsight, I should have probably gone with a 3000 but for me, a PSPGo wasnt an option because I wanted the option to run UMDs as well. Jess Ragan
Sony is a damn pain in the ass about firmware upgrades on the Vita. I just gave up on hacking it for homebrews because every time I turned it on or connected it to my PC, it kept nagging me with "YOU MUST UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE TO USE PSN." All right, all right! Get off my damn back already! I'm not going to sacrifice the functionality of this system just so I can play old Game Boy titles. I've got a half dozen other systems for that, including an actual Game Boy.
Austin
How easy is it to hack a PSP GO? Last I had one back in 2010 or so, I don't think anyone had managed it yet. I'd be really interested in picking up another one though if it's possible (and easy to do) now.

No need to pay someone to hack your system for you, just follow this link: http://wololo.net/hen/ I was nervous as all heck about hacking my son's PSP (and Wii(s) for that matter), but the process was very easy. Nothing beats 1:1 pixel mapping. Edited November 1, 2014 by roland p

Nothing beats 1:1 pixel mapping. The GP32 was an earlier less powerful model - then came the GP2X series. I bought the GP2X with backlight and normal batteries. It turns out to have a touchscreen which is handy. Plenty of apps because this was well supported by the community over the years. Emulators work great. It is a little bulky for a shirt pocket. Battery life is not as bad as you read but nothing to write home about.
springning
I got a JXD S7800b, it is 7.0 inches, can perfect running PSP, PS1, GBA, N64 etc. emulators.

Battery life is not as bad as you read but nothing to write home about. I just did some more research. The GCW-Zero looks a lot like the gamepark devices (gp2x, caanoo etc.), but is (on paper) a lot faster and still in production. And it's not that expensive compared to a second hand gp2x/caanoo (which sometimes are even more expensive). One thing that would worry me how long it will be supported, and the amount of emulators (is everything emulated?) I got a JXD S7800b, it is 7.0 inches, can perfect running PSP, PS1, GBA, N64 etc. emulators. The Android offerings look nice too, but somehow, I don't like having an Android OS, it seems a bit overkill to me. Do I have to hack it? Can I just drop files/executables and use them, or do I need the play store? I also saw custom roms for the JXD S7800b, does that mean that the normal rom is not good enough? Maybe I'm just wrong. In the end, the PSP is not that bad: lots of emulators and dirt cheap.

How to download the emulators on JXD device? please see here http://forum.jxdofficial.com/index.php?topic=13.
