Back2Atari
Has anyone here on Atari Age used a Universal Game Case with an Atari 2600 game cover from The Cover Project? I think they look great and requires little skill to assemble, unless you have to create a cover for a game not yet added. Here is a link to someone whom posted their Atari 2600 cover work on the cover project forum. If you have done this could you share the pros/cons? Perhaps share photos of your own game case in its completion? -Thanks Edited March 4, 2013 by Back2Atari
guiltl3ss
Guiltl3ss casts Raise Thread on the topic. Anyone used a UGC on them at all?
high voltage
Never used them. I use Telegames or HES plastic cases, they are the original replacement boxes from way back. Recently I discovered N64 boxes (as seen with the game Cosmic Swarm and Motocross Racer), I just cut the three plastic pieces off and voila. Bad with those is the cover is not glossy shiny, but it'll do. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/206624-my-absolute-greatest-atari-vcs-2600-collection-all-cib-if-possible/page-
reklen
I have about 100 Atari games in these cases, I use their site and this site for the box art. I prefer the red 2600 look, so all my loose 2600 cartridges are in red box cases, and my xe games are in the blue cases. You can modify the cases so the cartriges don't move. I wish Atari used these back in the day.

NoleOne
Does anyone have a link to a best price on these cases?
mcjefe
I order my UGC cases from a website called Media Shelving.
high voltage
Yep I'm using them now, they are not bad. I just use them where original boxes are difficult or expensive.....
Chuck D. Head
I find my desire being the same as one poster in that thread link; I would like to use this to have cases for all my Sears games. I am very close to having a loose Sears collection, but only a couple boxed, so this would be perfect, but I am depending on the kindness of strangers to scan and upload them to the project. robbievgb
I just started casing my 2600 collection. Even if I own the box, I actually prefer keeping the cases on the shelf to reduce wear on the boxes themselves. I've contributed to The Cover Project by scanning all of my Telegames boxes (trying to hunt down all of them) and I am always on the lookout for more to add. Lumberjack42 on TCP has made most of the accurate retail style covers there (the style I prefer), including Sears ones. At this point I think he has added them all to the main Atari 2600 listings on the site. Here's my Scan Thread on TCP which includes all of the 2600 boxes in my MediaFire account, the second page also includes a list of what's in my scan queue:http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=17675.0 Here's a link to my 2600 scans in MediaFire if anyone here is interested: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/fmyufka7kj248/Atari2600 Here's about 1/4 of my collection, now cased (ordered by manufacturer of course!). I still have many more to print out:
mulciberxp
Has anyone tried the USCG with Commavid games, or Atari 5200 games? Also, is there anywhere else to get covers than the cover project? They seem to be missing a LOT.

mattbuc16
So I combed through this and tried to look all over the internet but I have a question. If I opt to put my games in cases (hard plastic) -- specifically the universal game cases from like MediaShelving.com, will those fit all makes of Atari 2600 carts? Like Atari, Activision, Imagic (??????), INTV (Mattel), etc? And question #2: Does MediaShelving.com's site go offline every now and again. Happened to me today but now I'm able to access again, it seems. Thanks, Matt

Commavid I use the thicker N64 game cases, sometimes those cases can be found on eBay Germany
Mott
I use the cover project to print off covers as my old cardboard boxes are fragile. But when I print them off they don't fit in those UGC.. They are just a bit too big but if I trim it will spoil the look. Any ideas? I usually print off on glossy A4.. Mott

Mott I've noticed that I have to trim the back by a sliver in order to get them into the cases I've gotten (none of which came directly from MediaShelving.com, I had two smaller orders from resellers before potentially going all in to box my collection - which I'll eventually do, but I have a few other things to sort out before I get there (like the shelves I want to put boxed games on - and those are on backorder until sometime in Jan) I'm having some issues with games not being there and I've created one case on my own, but it took a little too long to do. I am thinking of just making a generic case style for the ones that I don't have souces for from Cover Project, but there are too many different Atari styles I can't quite decide what to do. Also, all I really need is a nice spine, and do I want to create a consistent spine design for all my 2600 carts, or keep the different designs for different manufacturers. It's all a bit too much for the moment, but I've got to sort this out sometime in 2020. I don't look forward to it!

Did you print the covers directly or resize them as when I print mine print out 2.5cm larger and try putting them in UGC they are much too big Mott

I’m not training anywhere near 2.5cm. It’s maybe 1/4 inch at most, probably more like 1/8.
reklen
The case are a little smaller than they used to be, is why your having trouble re-sizing. It also depends on your printer. I print mine at 99% instead of 100%, and it works perfectly, however, every printer is different, you have to experiment.

That's a good idea I'm normally printing from files from my phone so will try from a pc which will have more options..
