I have added three markers, to the right of the timer bar, that show how many 2x2 grids have yet to be made in order to enter bonus mode.

 

Once you enter bonus mode, the cells stop moving, and you can keep making grids as long as the timer bar expires.

 

During bonus mode, a grid is worth 20 points instead of 5.
