Would You Buy a Microsoft Xbox Portable? Also a Brief History of Handhelds

Microsoft is catching a lot of flack over the Xbox One from all over the gaming world which has gotten me to think about one area of entertainment they could enter that would probably accept MS and their IP's with very little trouble. Imagine playing Halo on the go (yes A version is coming to Windows Phone 8 soon but it is not an FPS) or Gears of War or Forza Motorsport or Conker. I know, I know, you are probably thinking that Microsoft is already in portable gaming with Windows Phone 8, they are not since that OS is only on cell phones and a variation is on tablets but not on dedicated gaming hand helds. Yet. The Zune doesn't count either, that was a music player that happened to play some games.

I am talking about a dedicated gaming hand held, with physical buttons. A gaming hand held carrying the Xbox branding. At this point with Microsoft's Windows 8 integration this proposed Xbox Portable would run a flavor of that OS and come with heavy integration across the next gen, computers and mobile.

I'm far sighted, so a handheld screen of any size is too damn close to my eyes. I tried to use a laptop computer and my eyes couldn't take it for more than 5 minutes. That also explains one of the reasons why I don't hang out with people. They always want to stand or sit too close. "I like you, but you need to go over there now. Farther. . . . Farther. . . . Farther. . . . Perfect!"

I'm not going to buy a Microsoft portable; I couldn't keep the thing in my pocket for fear of it constantly watching my dick.

I dont think they have the tech yet for that kind of magnafication..

Before hearing about the Xbox One,I would have said hell yeah. Now I would have to see what limitations they had.

Besides, All the great Microsoft IP's (except halo) have basically been discontinued. Seriously, I got the 360, because of all the great Firstt party games that the original Xbox had. The 360 initially had somegood first party games too, but now, I'm just not seeing them. And after they tried to dumb the new halo down to just another call of duty, I see no reason to follow that series any further.

DRM the hell out of it and don't release any good gmaes, hell no. Put some stuff like PGR, Vivapinata, Mech Assult, Bloodwake and older style halo and no DRM, hell yeah.

If a Microsoft handheld meant more modernized games on the go, then no, I probably wouldn't be interested. What I enjoy about Nintendo's handhelds especially are that the styles of games work well on the go. Donkey Kong Country Returns or Star Fox 64 3D for instance are both quick "pick up and play" types of games and they lend themselves well to the format. Likewise, while Sony's portables have generally offered more modern console-like experiences, they still offer tons of quality handheld-friendly games, from arcade compilations, to flashy fast-paced puzzle games, and more. I personally wouldn't want a Halo (as much fun as it is), or a Gears of War on the go to be honest. That's not to say they wouldn't do what Sony's platforms have done, and offer a wide variety of titles. But if a MS portable solely meant Call of Duty on the go, then no, I'd be happy to pass on it.
