triverse
We are moving forward with Retro Gaming Magazine, launching soon. Below is the table of contents is below. Additions to the staff include Martin Alessi (former graphics man for Electronic Gaming Monthly) handling our covers and we are now working with the Armchair Arcade team to flesh out the coverage we provide (we won't be console only but will include computers in our coverage). http://retrogamingmagazine.com/2013/10/20/retro-gaming-magazine-1-cover-reveal/ A tribute to Bill Kunkel, the man that started gaming magazines as we know them, with Arnie Katz, oh so many years ago. Historical articles we are known for (our staff has been producing these for over five years on multiple sites) Cross Platform Gaming (we make the decisions other mags are scared to- which version was better: Genesis or SNES?) It Began Here (we take a look at current gaming trends and show the place it started) New Retro (Think the ZX Spectrum is dead? Never heard of it? How about the Turbo Grafx-16 or NES- think they are dead? Nope) Check This Out (We take a classic and show readers some newer games that fit that mold and are worth trying) What the Hell Happened? (It happens to the best of them, they are going great then all of a sudden, something goes awry) We will be publishing on a bi-monthly schedule, about 60 pages per issue and will offer subscriptions from day one. Subscriptions will come in two forms- print/including digital and just digital. Subscribers will receive a unique cover to their issues (both digital and print). Additionally, subscribers will receive additional pages in their mags that will not be available anywhere else. All purchases of print issues will receive the digital for free.
KiwiArcader
Whatever happened to Gaming on Batteries magazine that I thought you guys were producing?
triverse
Good question. Honestly, it simply fell apart. I ran into not having the time to put the mag together. My PR company got extremely busy and I was the only person working it, now I have almost 10 freelancers handling most of the work that comes in there. As far as Retro Gaming Magazine goes, we have teamed up with Martin Alessi, EGM's original art director, to handle the covers and advertisement pages. Also, we are working with the Armchair Arcade (10+ year veterans of professionally covering retro computing, writing books on the genre and covering new games for old systems. triverse
Hi Dan, I think I remember you from Classic Video Gamer Magazine (that was the name right?). Weren't you a contributor there? Retro by Game Gavel is a different magazine than Retro Gaming Magazine. They are unique to each other, the only shared staff between the two magazines is Martin Alessi (he is doing our covers/ads while being a contributing writer to Game Gavel's magazine). Just for completeness sake, there is a third retro themed magazine launching soon. Game Cave. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sketchcraft/game-cave-vol-01-fighting-junkies?ref=live The connection between Retro Gaming Magazine and Game Cave is James Bacon who is a contributing writer between the mags. GC is being run by Rob Duenas, former Art Director for Gamefan Magazine (the reboot). I worked with Rob on issue #6 (I was the Retro Editor for the issue) and brought the team to the mag that handled the retro content in #6 and #7. I am pretty open about things. Retro Gaming Magazine is looking to be the first to launch due to both Game Cave and Retro, if funded, having to wait for Amazon to release their funds (30 to 60 days AFTER the project is successfully funded). Since we are not going with Kickstarter, we are not restricted by that clause. We will be opening pre-purchase options (with significant discounts) soon along with subscription options for those interested in guaranteeing their issues come without a hitch. high voltage
Here is the updated, and possibly final, version of our first cover. Martin did a great job on this. RGM Cover Concept MA 001.jpg Genesis and SNES is not equally on the cover, is it more SNES biased? triverse
The cover was chosen from several entries that were submitted in the contest. It was not intended to be more SNES biased, it just worked out that way- as far as the cover is concerned. The article itself is still open for debate as to which games get featured (there is at least another week for voting though votes have slowed quite a bit recently). Here is the list of over 240 games that hit both platforms if you, or anyone else, would like to cast your vote for any of them. All you have to do is post with what game on what system was better than the other. Some games are "different" such as Pirates of Dark Water but they share the same license so they got listed here. 3 Ninjas Kick Back Aaahh!!! H.E.R.O.
What would really be cool is to find the folks that were involved in the development of the ColecoVision - whether it be hardware or software. This. Colecovision doesn't get the love that Atari or Nintendo gets in the retro community and it entirely deserves it.
triverse
Well, as we all can see, there is definitely a desire in the community for more Colecovision coverage/interviews. I will make a point of going the extra mile for that type of coverage. That is how we operate at Retro Gaming Magazine, by fan demand because we survive or fail based on the support from the fans.
