AnimaInCorpore
Hi guys, a new year with a new project. This time it's a Neo Geo emulator on the Atari Falcon 030. As a first proof of concept please take a look at the following video showing an early test version running "Metal Slug". Actually it's more likely a target for accelerated machines. Justin Payne
First off, WOW! You wrote an emulator. That's big stuff. Second: it's a bit slow on the Falcon but I'm amazed that it actually looks playable. Third: where did you learn to write an emulator? Forth: What did you write this in? I'm going to assume assembly. Nice work!
mattlacey
Slow, naturally, but bloody impressive! Ported from another system? Wonder if there's any optimisations that could pull it closer to 30 fps or similar, with a bit of frameskip I think that'd be playable! Lynxpro
Any chance of using a 68882 FPU to aid the emulator? I'm now imagining running Samurai Showdown on the Falcon...
Rybags
Interesting, and impressive. Although NeoGeo runs a slower 68000, emulating an entire different machine is still a lot of work. I imagine the big overhead would be in processing the graphics/sprite data. Not to mention extra slowdown if using a 16bpp graphics mode. Unsure that an FPU would be of great help. Is the DSP employed in any way to help out? or the blitter? Edited December 25, 2013 by Rybags
