D2K ARCADE ROM Special Year-End Sale -- Only $10

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

For the next four days the official D2K ARCADE ROM is on sale for only $10 (half the normal price).

Please see my blogger address for ordering details:

Just scroll down and read the "purchasing agreement", then click on the PayPal "buy it now" button.

This is the official ROM of the game as sold by Elektronite, sold by the author of the game (me). The game will be specially prepared to include your name in the credits. (You may also specify a nickname, etc.).

Thanks, and have a happy new year. Carl

Thanks for the reply.

1. It is my understanding that sales of D2K have been discontinued and are not likely to resume.

2. There's D1K :-) but as to others, not yet… But I am working on something new that might be sold for $10, at least during a special sale. ;-)

For those curious, it could come out as early as summer 2014.

And I will very likely have another release hopefully in time for Christmas 2014.

Sorry, I can't offer any details yet. Carl

Are you also still planning on a DK jr release at some point?

It could happen, but not for at least another two years.

If I do it, I might very well make it a sequel rather than a port of the arcade game.

In other words, all the game mechanics are the same, but you'll have new screens done in the spirit of the originals à la D2K.

After all, Coleco's port of DK Junior is actually pretty decent (playing that is, not looking).

If you do a DK jr sequel, it would be nice if you could include the original level as a playable game mode as you did with D2K.

It could happen, but I would be much more interested (and motivated) to work on something new.

Also, there's the question of how to actually pull off graphics without sacrificing the "D2K look" I've established (such as DK's face, and the Mario sprite).

There is so much going on on-screen, and to give up even one sprite for DK's face, and then at least one more for Mario, that would leave only six remaining. DK Junior would be at a minimum three, and preferably more for the sprites I had drawn and posted previously.

The falling fruit could be implemented with software sprites, but that leaves very little for any enemy sprites.

If I think I can significantly improve upon it within these limitations, then I'll probably do it.

Carl, so happy to see you here and hear from you, especially with news about new releases! Very exciting, can't wait to see what you'll produce. :)

Happy to be here. I hope I won't disappoint – I want to at least get two more titles out before doing some other – believe it or not – somewhat non-Intellivision related projects. ;-)

By the way, only three days left… :-)

Non-Intellivision related projects? yah, well that's just crazy talk. :-D

Carl $10 is the perfect price point!

I had already bought both DK and DIIK roms last year.

CMART, it not "non-Intellivision related projects"

it is "somewhat non-Intellivision related projects."

That secretly means... A new tutor-vision emulator and all the available software.. Plus, SUPER DK and DIIK with enhanced sound and graphics

that make the arcade versions look like a coleco release!

Well, we can dream can't we?

You're right about Intellivision games with enhanced sound and graphics. And also about an emulator. Shh, shh!

Thanks everyone for your support. It really, really helps me out. The money aside, just the fact that people are supporting my efforts makes me want to try harder and harder!

And to clarify my previous comment, my timeline is something like this for the next two years:

2014

Release 2 new Intellivision titles. I can't leak any information on these at this time, other than that one is pretty far in development is expected to be ready for release in the summer. I plan the other for December.

See the last Hobbit movie. (I still haven't seen the second movie, because it won't be released here in Japan until February! :-()

2015

FINISH, once and for all, Intellivision for NES and publish it, at least online. I envision being able to offer for $10 for example, the "space network" pack. What that would get you is the emulator customized to run the games, with context-sensitive menus and the option to enable high-resolution, multicolor graphics and experience the games in a whole new way. Of course, YOU have to supply the ROMs.

Eventually, you may be able to purchase stuff on NES cartridge, or God forbid, a small run of NES on a chip plug-and-play's could be made, just to show how "it should've been done".

Finally, see a really bad Star Wars movie in December. ;-)

I saw the two Hobbit movies that have released in the US (and the extended versions of all 3 LOTR movies). I liked both so far and look forward to the third. Full disclosure.....(don't kill me)....I haven't read any of the books, so I'm still kinda getting the plot and all of the characters confused.
