BrutallyHonestGamer
For Christmas I got myself a PC-Engine Duo R that happened to be at a local shop. So far I got a handful of games and it works fine, but I'm hoping someone can answer 1 question for me that I can't seem to find a clean answer to. I know you can play Japanese Games on a domestic TurboDuo, CD games, but can you play USA games on a PC Engine Duo? I know HuCards won't work, but the topic for CD games always seems to be Japan to US and not the other way around. Thanks.
Austin
Yes, any region CD game will play on any region Turbo DUO or PC Engine DUO unit.

TheGameCollector
Yeah I think when I get this system again I am going to go for this sturdier Japanese unit instead of a TurboDuo and just get a plain TurboGrafx-16 for American HuCards. Isn't the Everdrive region free?
CatPix
The Hu card have a physical region lock : two pins are reversed on the Turbografx. The Everdrive I think have a physical switch to move from US to Japanese. If you plan to use a Everdrive, don't even bother buying a Turbografx, as there is no software locking on the PC Engine. Isn't the Everdrive region free? The Japanese units are still prone to cap issues just like the American models. Perhaps the DUO-RX may be sturdier (I'm not even 100% certain on that), but you are also going to be paying a lot more money for it. Like CatPix said, the Everdrive has a switch on it depending on what kind of system you are using it in. Theoretically it's the kind of thing you have switched permanently, and the card remains in your system at all times until you want to play a CD game. Any region ROM will play fine without any switching required once it's set to the correct region your system is. Looking back at that last paragraph, that was probably way more information than what was needed. But I digress.

I wonder if you could just leave it in ALL the time if you had dump of the System 3.0 card. I know this wouldn't work on a TG-16 + CD Player combo, because the System 3.0 card actually contains the extra 192K of RAM. I think that all the needed hardware is built into a though Duo unless you wanted to play an ACD game.

Either way, it seems on a TG-16 + CD combo, mimicking the System 1.0/2.0 card may be doable as I don't believe it offered any extra RAM. I wonder if anyone has attempted this? I have unfortunately never owned an actual Turbo CD add-on (have always had DUO systems), so I haven't had the opportunity to test it. TheGameCollector
Oh I would still want a US TurboGrafx-16 to be able to run and test legit HuCard games I would collect after beating them using the Everdrive. Beating games is how I define which ones I like enough to collect. Otherwise it doesn't count as a member of my collection, it counts as an expendable backlog game. Need extra cash? Sell backlog games before anything else.
