VectorGamer
I'm decades late to the party...My daughter wanted to play the ColecoVision with me last night so I thought Q*bert would be a cutesy game that she might like. I've played this game many times before but only in small dosages. Last night I played for about an hour and found the game quite addicting as I was getting better at it.Couple of questionsThere's a bonus given after completing a screen but how is that bonus calculated? Those purple octopus-like creatures that ascend from the bottom of the playfield I can't quite figure out. It seems like sometimes they'll kill me and other times they'll just hop over me. What's the dealio with these guys? For your time:
cimerians
I think Its calculated by the round you are currently in, the characters remaining on the screen and the number of disks remaining on the screen. I am not 100% sure but I think I'm right. Also, those purple creatures on the bottom can be avoided while they are in motion. When they stop on a cube and you touch them you lose a life (or they run into you while you are on a cube). They basically "climb" from the bottom up and it takes a little practice with timing to get passed them. "Jump over them" Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the blonde pic. NIAD
For your time: I'm trying to find a way to ask you this question without ticking you off, but I just can't figure the proper and P.C. way to do so, so here goes... Is this your daughter and if so, is she involved with anyone at the moment? If so and she's available, maybe one day, I could be calling you Dad and we can spend a lot of time playing ColecoVision when I need a break and to recoup... if you know what I mean! And to everyone else who was thinking the same thing, but weren't brave enough to ask... Shame on you! Pixelboy
Very nice Photoshop job, in general. Oh, and Q*bert is nice too.
sega_SHARK
1000 points for completing each round. This increases by 250 points for each round. Up to 5000 points. You get 50 bonus points for each unused disc. That bonus sucks though, because you get 500 points by using them to lure PURPLE SNAKE off the pyramid. I can't help you with CRAZY SIDEWAYS CREATURES. Sometimes the hit detection works, sometimes it doesn't.
SoulBlazer
Can't answer anything about the game, but.... That's a picture of Gemma Atkinson, a British model and actress. She's my fav British model. There is a game connection with her, though -- she played the part of Lt. Eva in Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. And yes, she had her breasts enlarged.

Well, for what it's worth, I always appreciate a tasteful image of this sort, sexy yet not overly provocative.

+Yurkie
Unfortunately there is no Ugg in the CV version only Wrong Way. They move along the bottoms of the cubes on their sides instead of the top.
slab0meat
Is that what she named them??? Ugg and Wrong Way? Hers may be called Yum and Right Way.. dunno. Unfortunately there is no Ugg in the CV version only Wrong Way. They move along the bottoms of the cubes on their sides instead of the top. Been awhile since I played the ColecoVision version and totally forgot that. Play the arcade version at least once and get the real experience, just for reference. ColecoFan1981
The scoring algorithm is this: (Level # x 1000) + ((Round # - 1) x 250)) For level 1-3, for example, the algorithm calculated is (1 x 1000) + ((3 - 1) x 250) which amounts to 1500 bonus points. For level 3-4, the algorithm becomes (3 x 1000) + ((4 - 1) x 250) which amounts to 3750 bonus points. 5000 bonus points are awarded from Level 5 on. ~Ben

My wife actually thanked me this morning and I had to break the news to her not to thank me, but to thank rmaerz for posting that pic. mozartpc27
Had to post this somehwere: just played my best game of Q*Bert ever. Round 6, screen 2. 145,975 points. Would have been second place in the most recent high score competition for that game... but still. The whole thing about doubles in speed at the beginning of the sixth round (I always default to starting on skill level 1, don't even think about it. Old habit from kidhood).

Still used to as an adult but now that I know a lot of games take stuff out if you don't choose the 3rd level I try to play that more so I can see everything they programmed for the game. I still play some level one at times though.
Inky
Seeing as this is a necro bump, I might as well add to the fun...The purple guys that start at the bottom and work up (Ugg and Wrong-Way) always used to get me all the time. Then I found out their movement pattern, and I rarely have trouble with them. Now, Coily himself starts at the top cube, and works his way to the bottom of the pyramid (then turns into the snake, but ignore that for now).Ugg and Wrong way behave the same exact way. The difference is that cube at the bottom left and bottom right are their top of the pyramid, and the straight edge opposite their starting cube is the bottom. If you were to rotate the screen so the corner cube is at the top, the movement of the character makes more sense. Once I figured this out, it was much easier to avoid these characters.
