Gazoo
The cure is to start selling some of it off. Particularly to me. You are correct. Every once in a while, I go through my stuff and say 'Do I really need this?' or 'Would it help other people to have this?'. I then either give it away or sell it at a very reasonable price. I'm hoping it helps keep the community alive. Gazoo

Perhaps AtariAge ("AA") is a perfect place for this. The twelve-step program to cleansing yourself of this ailment. A "TI Anonymous," if you will. The first step is admitting there is a problem. But, really, I can stop amassing my TI stuff any time I want to. I control this habit, it does NOT contr OH, LOOK WHAT JUST CAME UP ON EBAY!!!! GOTTA GO! It was a freebie with the condition when I am ready to move on I pass it on to a fellow 99er who can put it to use. I am just about there, just having a difficult time parting with it because I want to make a replacement power supply and a spare unit is a perfect test chassis. Oh, the torment. +Ksarul
I know this problem. . .my wife keeps telling me I have too much stuff. The problem is--all of the stuff she complains about is my TI computer stuff. That started about two weeks after we got married. She looked at my European 99/4 and asked what it was. I told her it was a computer. She said it looks old--get rid of it. I picked it up and pointed to the date stamp on the bottom: 0980. She said so what, that means nothing. My response was that this computer was built in the 9th week of 1980, and that I'd had it since it was new. I also noted that it was older than she was, and that she would leave long before it did. . .that war has continued ever since. LOLOL I do need to arrange my collection somewhat though, as I keep misplacing important items in my "junk room" as the wife calls it. Omega-TI
I know this problem. . . Have you ever noticed, when wifes talk about their men's stuff, it's "JUNK", but when they talk about their own stuff, it's just "STUFF"? What's with that?

+Lee Stewart
In our house, it's our stuff or our junk—well, most of the time, anyway. Many of you met my Anna at the last Chicago International Faire and probably agree that she's cool and certainly tolerant. And—she rather enjoyed the company of all us nerds! ...lee
+OLD CS1
I am fortunate enough to have a woman who not only tolerates what I do, but also encourages it (she bought me Pitfall for Christmas a couple of years back -- I think we were actually broken up at the time.) I do my best to keep my hobby contained in my room, and what I cannot fit in there I keep in storage in good condition. I rotate some stuff out as the fever hits, but the two staples in my immediate grasp are my Amiga and my TI. Even my 128D does not get first billing these days! Though, now that I am putting everything on my rack I suppose the 128D could come out to play. The 130XE, however, will wait. Now, if only other parts of the relationship were so easy. EDIT: TOLERATE was the word I was having difficulty finding, thank you, Lee. PPS: She also thinks that my having found my original 99/4A from 1983 is pretty neat.

Ooooooooh, yeah, you GOTTA watch those 'side-ways jumps in ill-logic' that some of them take. Their brains (processing units) are different, just because two things are the same, (in this case in age only), they'll combine the two into one subject heading in their firmware, ASSUME the two are linked and then 'take it personal'. You can only lose at that point (if you have a model that becomes irrational). The one that behavior that DROVE ME NUTZ was if you knew something that they did not, you were 'obviously making stuff up'. Even when they found out later you were 'not making stuff up' and the song, information or whatever had been around for decades, there was never an "I'm sorry for accusing you", or even a simple "sorry, I didn't know.". The arrogance in that behavior is mind boggling.
+Ksarul
There is also the alternate reality processing unit. Once mine has identified anything as "real" or "correct," any demonstrations on the part of reality contrary to that worldview are automatically wrong. If one of her friends tells her something, it is as real and correct as a gold bar in her hands (she's a Turk, so she REALLY likes gold, it is a cultural thing with them). Taking her to the ultimate source of the correct information nets the response "they're wrong, my friend knows better" and usually results in a week or so of the icy blast vision or the continuing low-grade volcanic eruption with short blasts of plasma-grade verbal attitude correction attempts. Those are really good weeks to go into hiding in the "junk room." LOLOL

Ouch! When some of them go into full-blown 'attitude mode', it's usually because they are 'defensive', which is a sure sign that they KNOW they are in the wrong, but don't want to admit it. Correcting you, is just their way of either asserting their dominance OR to make you realize that 'you are wrong on occasion too' (so you'll forgive them of theirs or punish you for showing them that they were wrong.). It's sad that some of them cannot get over it and move on, it would be healthier!
