I got bored and bought King of the Monsters, a surprisingly expensive MVS title given its age, but I can kind of see why.

At its core, King of the Monsters is just a really simple, giant-size wrestling game with controls that anybody can pick up in less than a minute. A lot of Neo Geo fighters have complex fighting systems with various charge bars, combo schemes, tag-ins and special moves. That can be pretty intimidating for the average house guest, or back in the day, people who didn't visit arcades often. King of the monsters takes just the smallest pinch of that depth, but chooses instead to focus more on environmental interactions and its scale. I got about as good as I'm ever going to get at that game on the first credit. It's a button masher, but If I were trying to make money off of an MVS these days, I'd look to fill it with simple games like this one. The option of doing 2-player in co-op or versus is nice too.

One part of King of Monsters I didn't expect to appreciate so much is the sound design. The big boomy sound effects and music with some well placed voice samples of chanting or panicking humans. It all really helps to sell the game's cheesy 70's suitmation style.

Nice review! The MVS/AES of King of the Monsters carts on Ebay have really gone up! I'm trying to find my AES version. I think I misplaced it somewhere in my room! The music of the Kyoto stage was my favorite and the art work in Hiroshima as well!

Hi guys,

Tonight I'm playing "King of Fighters Neo Wave" on my computer. This was available for the Atomiswave hardware system and the game is really fun! The music and gamplay are solid and the graphics are impressive for this technology for its time! After discontinuing the Neo-Geo MVS/AES platform, SNK/Playmore was doing games on a platform similar to its own hardware of the Neo-Geo. The Atomiswave was short lived though. But its still holds value on prices on the internet!

I would like to get an hold of a consolized atomiswave...the problem is the money but also whether or not I will be able to play it. I wanna play it using the VGA output but I have no way to find out if my LCD TV can play it right with all the benefits. My LCD TV (made from LG) is the sole media I could use it with......I know some people run into issue with the whole 31hz, 15hz thing. Truth to be told, I am also an ignorant in those things.

Yeah, me too! The only one I see on Ebay that's consolized and its over $700 dollars! Its from "neotropolis" and they do good work! I just need the proper TV to play for that type of unit!

Hi guys,

Back again playing on my computer and this time enjoying "Samarai Shodown VI" that was developed for the Atomiswave system! Another forgotten title that was made by SNK/Playmore and a true hidden gem that must didn't play on the hardware in the Arcades. Play this title, you'll be impressed!

Well, a few days ago Real Bout Fatal Fury Special came in the mail, which was the last one I didn't have (granted I don't care much about regions or condition). The game seems neat, but an awful lot like real bout 2 and I haven't really had enough time to pick a favorite. Not that I'm a huge Fatal Fury fan anyway, but at least I can take a picture of them all lined up.

Also I've been working a bit more with the MAS stick. I switched over to IL Convex buttons, (w/ cherry switches) from the IL concave units I had upgraded to before. I seem to like the convex a bit more since rapid tapping is easier for shooters. I also started noticing a slight issue with the 'Opticon' stick where moving very lightly right and releasing could leave the stick activated when it recentered. I fixed it with the image below that I stole from shoryuken. I think I'll be playing even more with sensitivity in the near future to really dial it in. The new MAS sticks I see for sale online seem to use Happ Perfect 360 optical sticks, so I wonder if there's some serious issue with the Opticon that I've yet to encounter.

Wow! That's nice on the FF series collection you have! Thanks for posting! I would love to see your controller in action one day on Youtube!

Hi guys,

Here is a video promoting the Consolized Omega CMVS system! Others have others ways to customize their units, but if you like the Omega. Here is a nice promo video to see!

I could never possibly say enough positive things about my Omega. Even at $500+ without controller/game it is one of the bigger bargains in gaming. Such a nice case and clean interior. Looking at the prices of other consolized MVS units, I'd expect it to be at least a couple hundred more.

All that said, the ad really didn't resonate with me. Seemed a bit cheesy, and didn't focus much on the system or its many features. Perhaps worst of all, the product didn't really come across as the 'premium' gaming experience that it really is.

Maybe I'm just getting grumpy in my advanced age.

My MVS copy of Gunlord arrived this week. I already had the DC version, but it displays weird on my monitors (image size and position issues), and frankly I've been salivating over the MVS cart ever since I got my CMVS. Most I've ever spent on a video game BY FAR, and I hope that it is the most that I will ever spend. Awesome game, though.

I have to replace my current CMVS system that I had for awhile and the Omega has been on my mind for the longest time! The Analog Interactive version looks nice, but the Omega seems to stick in my mind the most! I want to get it before the year end. But I want to play Last Hope Pink Bullets and Knight's Chance for the AES first when they arrive!

So much to do, so little time! :(

Happy that you received your Gunlord copy! The most I ever paid for a Neo-Geo game was around $800.00. I want Breakers, Pulstar and Ninja Masters for my collection, but those games for the AES are over $1,000.00 and trusting the sellers if their legit games always rises red flags for me! :!:
