Metal Ghost
Would really appreciate some advice everyone! Xbox currently has a pretty nice Spring Sale going. Two of the best deals are on Batman Arkham titles. Specifically, both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are going for $4.99 each! As much as I really don't need/want my 360 catalog to be filled with even more backlog, I haven't played either of these games and kind of feel like I can't pass this up. But, in the interest of limiting game purchases (especially as I try to work through Bioshock Infinite) I really only want to pick up one of these games. SO....which one should I get? They both scored within 2 points of each other on Metacritic (92/94, respectively). I've heard that City is the bigger game. Should I go with the bigger and "better" Arkham City? Or would it really pay to start with the first title of this particular Batman series??
moycon
Wish I could answer. I'm snagging City, but only because I already have Asylum. The bad thing is, I haven't played any of these games! Looking forward to people responses as I really have no clue about them, other than I recall hearing good things about the series as a whole. Gregory DG
Get both (or start with Asylum.) I finished that one and have recently started City. City is far more open so I usually get lost wondering where to go...
+wongojack
I have logged A LOT of 360 time, and I believe strongly that Arkham City is possibly the best game of this console generation. The "open world" genre has sort of taken over of late and this one is both the most dense and has the best action. Arkham Asylum isn't bad and the fighting and sneak mechanics that are so strong are present in both, but if I had to pick one it would be City.
xenomorpher
I would pick up Arkham Asylum if you can only choose one. Get both if you can honestly.
+Random Terrain
In Arkham City, you don't have that thing that can grab 3 bad guys at the same time. That was my favorite weapon, so I hated Arkham City for not having it.

If that's all you got, Arkham City has to be AWESOME! *runs off to buy*
Metal Ghost
Thanks for the input so far everyone....keep any more insight coming! *sigh* I'm REALLY trying not to pick-up both.
thegamezmaster
I like both. Asylum is set before City so I started with that and then played City. If you can, get the GOTY edition. It should have all the DLC. Unless they want to nickel and dime you to death.
cimerians
I finished Asylum but have not finished City. Both are good. In fact I liked them so much I also have two copies (on steam and on console). This is how superhero games should be made.....I'm sure you will agree. It's one of those games that are must plays of last generation.
JamesD
Both. There are some things I like better about either one than the other but they are both great games.
moycon
I bought City and all the DLC tonight. Total cost was like $9. Seriously looking forward to finally trying these games out!
+Random Terrain
. . . they are both great games. Except for the slow motion LSD crap.
thegamezmaster
Is it me or do the boss fights seem harder on Origins? I'm stuck on Bane Redux. So much I stopped playing it for a while.
Metal Ghost
I went and purchased Asylum. Then the next day went back and purchased Arkham City. Seriously, sometimes I have such little willpower when it comes to gaming.
cimerians
Except for the slow motion LSD crap. Totally agree. I hated that part. I couldn't wait till it was over. Also the only other negative for me was constantly flipping between detective mode and normal mode. At one point I played the game mostly in detective mode without realizing it. +Random Terrain
Totally agree. I hated that part. I couldn't wait till it was over. In case anyone wants to know, Far Cry 3 has this same type of walking in slow motion crap that these Batman games have. What in the heck is wrong with game designers? cimerians
Hopefully they didn't bring back the slow mo in Origins. I think I'll never buy Origins though unless it goes down below 10 bucks. Read bad reviews about that one.

Ok, I've got very deep knowledge of these games, but I can't figure out what you are referring to. Slow Mo? LSD?
cimerians
Ok, I've got very deep knowledge of these games, but I can't figure out what you are referring to. Slow Mo? LSD? Its basically the Scarecrow sequence in the first game. I didn't personally care for it. Kind of an annoying get-it-over-with part of the game for me. It's very short compared to the scope of the game(s) Those Scarecrow sections are not in City. Example of that from City?

I haven't played that all the way so I dont know if they have weird hallucinogens in that one. I need to get back and finish that off...I'll probably restart from scratch. Both are awesome games. Must plays.....
+Random Terrain
Ok, I've got very deep knowledge of these games, but I can't figure out what you are referring to. Slow Mo? LSD? You don't remember the parts where you have to walk really, really, really, really slow for no good reason other than to tickle the nuts of the game designer? In comparison to the whole game, it's not that long, but I'm there to play, not walk in slow motion as I have hallucinations. City had less slow walking, but it did have stupid drugged Batman mini games [NSFW video] which I hate. I just want to play the normal games without the bullshit. moycon
In comparison to the whole game, it's not that long, The only complaint in regards to the first game is the brief "slow motion LSD crap." The only complaint of the sequel is "you don't have that thing that can grab 3 bad guys at the same time" We all know for a fact, RT once played a FREE game (Fable 2 I believe) five times in a row, then made a lengthy list of everything he didn't like, and stated he was glad he didn't pay any money for the game. To sum up. BATMAN...One complaint apiece, probably played through at least a dozen times (speculation) and no mention of feeling ripped off. I'm telling you, this series of Batman games, might be the best series ever made!!
