ColecoVision Flashback System

Recommended Posts

They just bought Star Wars, I wasn't aware they had done a heck of a whole lot with it so far? Those are big name properties though and I think it's beyond question that today's Disney still loves money. But look at what they do with their own heritage like cancelling the Disney Treasures line despite those always selling out quickly or go to places dedicated about their theme parks.

Sadly, Atari 2600 games aren't big money deals so if somehow Disney ended up holding these rights someday, I'm confident they'd gather dust unless someone like AtGames went knocking on their door with a deal for what would otherwise be idle assets.

Either way before we rerail the topic after this minor detour, I imagine we both share the hope that the remainder of these classic rights at least stick together. Last thing we need is for more to follow Battlezone in being scattered to the winds.

Bet we sadly never see that resurface again, particularly in its classic forms.

Actually not a bad list of games especially when you consider some of the included Homebrews... people are going to blown away by Princess Quest and Mecha8! There were some very surprising omissions that I consider "staple" games of the CV and hopefully something can be worked out for some of them in the future while others will never be a possibility more than likely. I still hate the whole variations thing, but oh well, better something than nothing at all.

So these are the games that didn't make the cut and might never on a "possible" CVFB 2, but one can hope:

2010: The Graphic Action Game, B.C.'s Quest for Tires, B.C. Quest for Tires II: Grog's Revenge, Beamrider, Buck Rogers - Planet of Zoom, Burgertime, C.P.K. Adventures in the Park, C.P.K. Picture Show, Campaign '84, Carnival, Caterpillat S.O.S., Centipede, Chuck Norris SuperKicks, Congo Bongo, Dance Fantasy, Decathlon, Defender, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Dr. Seuss Fix-Up the Mix-Up Puzzler, Dukes of Hazzard, Facemaker, Fraction Fever, Frogger, Frogger II, Front Line, Galaxian, Gorf, Gyruss, H.E.R.O., Illusions, It's Only Rock "N' Roll, James Bond 007, Jukebox, Keystone Kapers, Lady Bug, Learning with Leeper, Linking Logic, Logic Levels, Looping, Memory Manor, Monkey Academy, Mouse Trap, Mr. Do!, Mr. Do!'s Castle, One on One Basketball, Pitfall, Pitfall II, Pitstop, Popeye, Q*bert, Q*bert's Qubes, River Raid, Robin Hood, Rocky - S.A.B., Roc'N Rope, Sector Alpha, Sewer Sam, Slither, Smurf PnP, Smurf Rescue, Spectron, Spy Hunter, Star Trek, Star Wars, SubRoc, S.A. Baseball, S.A. Football, S.A. Soccer, Super Cobra, Super Sketch, Tapper, Tarzan, Time Pilot, Turbo, Tutankham, Up "n' Down, Victory, WarGames, WizMath, Word Feud, Zenji as well as the Bit Corp. and original TeleGames releases.

Yeah, between Disney and JJ Abrams, I weep for the future of Star Wars, I'm so happy that 20th Century Fox outright owns A New Hope, a thorn on Disney's side to be sure, like Sony with The Muppets Take Manhattan and Paramount with Indiana Jones (see Secret of the Incas) then Disneyland tickets now cost $100, plus $20 parking, ultra expensive food and water/drinks, it's all greed, Walt is rolling over in his grave!

I notice that Sonic 3 isn't listed for the Genesis. Is that correct or did AtGames miss one on their PDF?

Sonic 3 requires a save file. Assuming the ATGames clones use embedded program, there may not be flash memory present to record save files. However, their outright lack of save support via SD card is a glaring omission.

Hmm, I think JJA on Star Wars is the kick up the ass needed by that franchise.

The Atgames Genesis Portable will have an SD card so you can load Sonic 3 (and everything else) that way. Bill suggested they might allow save states (though not save games) on that machine but we probably will not know about performance until it ships.

I think it's very cool that everything I liked as a young person (Marvel, Star Wars, Apple, Colecovision) is back from the dead and still around in modern ways for modern days.

I don't want to change topics but I'll make it quick:

Totally agree, Marvel and Star Wars have been dead for me since the 80's. The Marvel movies have really brought me back waiting for the next film and I'm just glad someone else is doing Star Wars. It deserves it. I actually like Mr. Flare Abrams. Didn't like the second Star Trek flick but I did like the first one. I think its in good hands now...thankfully. If I was a Marvel or Star Wars director I would happily take mommy's (Disney's) money cause they got tons of it.

No love/deal for Mr. Do! or/and (the best console port to date of) Mr. Do's Castle.

That's disappointing. :(

Yeah. :( Some nasty lawyer somewhere has Mr Do! in licensing bondage! Let our Mr. Do! go! That in particular is pushing me towards hunting down the version with the extra game to try to make up for it. Hopefully it will be available by the next time I'm on the continent.

How does Mr Do! Colecovision compare to the white cartridge 2600 port? I own the 2600 game and it's not bad. There was also a little known SNES port as well.

I don't really own a Colecovision and it's currently something I would like to get a taste for, but not something I want to go out of my way to collect. That one reason why I'm so excited about the Coleco Flashback. Glad it got the bulk of good games released for it.

As for Star Wars Episode 7, there is another thread for that.

Well it is going to look close to the arcade unlike the atari version horrible looking lines through the whole screen as background.

Bill, how many overlays are included with the Colecovision Flashback and how many extra ones will be in the Sam's Club version? Is the same 15 and 15 deal like with the Intelivision Flashback? Sorry if you said this already.

I honestly don't know what the counts are for any of them, or what's included beyond a few of the titles. I'll find out more when I get the review units some time this month,.
