video game addict
Forgive me if this has already been brought up before, But why do some titles not work on the later XL/XE machines? According to DP7 there are 9 games mentioned, possibly more: Astrochase (Pb) Attack at EP-CYG-4 Chicken Demon Attack Gorf K-Razy Kritters Picnic Paranoia Protector II Slime I now own 4 of those 9, and I can attest to the fact, that they will NOT load on my XEGS. But why exactly is this? Does it have something to do with the OS? Is there a fix somehow? Or possibly a way to build a passthru, gamegenie type device that would allow it? I don't want to have to buy another 800, just for a few carts. BTW: Does anyone know of any other titles that don't work on the XL/XE line? +Mitch
Atari switched BIOS's after the 800 creating the compatibility problem. There is a translator disk and cartridge either of which will allow you to play most of the incompatible programs. For a list of the problem games check the Atari 8bit FAQ. oesii
The disk version of One on One Basketball was the main game I had to use a Translater disk to play on my XL and XE's. Atari later released it on a XE cart which fixed it up.
ndary
yes there is a way to build a passthru, gamegenie type device that would allow it? what i simply did is modified my SpartaDos X cartrige to work as a translator cart.. simply stick your old 800 carts on top of it.. and plug them into the xegs.. they works fine now on my 130xe system with standard atari os.. the other solution is an OS replacement inside your atari.. something like FIX-XL, RAMROD or Ulrea Speed OS from css.. nir
