Dragon Princess Yushira
Just misplaced the RF switch that came with the 7800 and I want to know if I can use the NES's or to an extent, Genesis or Master System RF switch? Will it also work on modern day TVs. Tried it not to long ago and the picture wasn't so great on the non-flat TV.
bennybingo
Best way to go (outside of an A/V mod) is a coaxial adapter. Something like this: http://www.vintagegamingandmore.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/IMG_3748-1024x766.jpg You will still see some RF interference, but it should work nicely.
OldSchoolRetroGamer
No those auto-switching rf boxes do not work with the early consoles like 2600 / 7800 / Colecovision etc, the are not designed to push the signal over. You need the original type that lets yoy select between tv/game or as bennybingo suggests a coaxial adapter to avid the swithbox all together. thegamezmaster
I use a coaxial adapter and RF cable. Works for me.
MrMaddog
I used a coxial adapter once... If you are going that route then I highly recommend you get an RF cable from an Atari computer (ST or XE). Because they have a box the cable wrapped around an iron ring which removes RF interference. You can easily replace the 2600 RF cable just by unscrewing the bottom off the VCS. Andromeda Stardust
I tried a Nintendo/Sega RF switch on my 2600. No dice. Nintendo, Sega, and Turbografx supply a 5v offset that powers the autoswitch. Atari consoles lack the voltage offset, so the autoswitch won't work. That "box" or "can" around the cable is an RF choke. You can buy one at Radio Shack and clamp it onto any cable to suppress RF interferance. I've got a fat RF choke box installed inside my 2600. My 7800 is a Best AV mod.
