retrogoober
I know nothing of Tetris, er, um, Chetiry strategies, other than leaving a 'line' open for the 'l' blocks for max points, is there a stacking order thats best for longevity? I have only hit around the 58,000 point mark I want a rocket in my pocket:) Lee
mipaol
To be honest when I play Chetiry/Tetris the placement of blocks is more akin to muscle memory than any sort of conscious thought. I think its why I love Tetris so much, playing it can transcend conscious thought to become a zen like experience, in fact I don't think its possible to play something like level 9 height 5 and actually think about what you're doing. Andromeda Stardust
I know nothing of Tetris, er, um, Chetiry strategies, other than leaving a 'line' open for the 'l' blocks for max points, is there a stacking order thats best for longevity? I have only hit around the 58,000 point mark I want a rocket in my pocket:) Lee Chetiry is based on Game Boy scoring. Base score for level zero is as follows: single - 40 points double - 100 points triple - 300 points Tetris - 1200 points As you can see, anything less than a Tetris is really peanuts... This is then multiplied by the level plus 1. So the multplier for level 1 would be 2, and a single would be worth 40x(1+1)=80 points. A triple on level 5 would be 300x(5+1)=1800 points. And a Tetris on level 9 would be 1200x(9+1)=12,000 points! Which brings me to the next point: starting level. Level one starts when you complete 10 lines. Level 10 starts when you complete 100 lines. So if you start on level 0, it will take 100 lines to reach level 10. And if you start on level 9, it will still take 100 lines to reach level 10. But by playing the entire first 100 lines on level 9, you earn many more points for every line you clear. So if you feel comfortable playing level 9, you should start on level 9. If four out of every ten lines you cleared were the result of a tetrise, you would have 120,000 points by the time you reached level 10 on tetrises alone. If the other 60 lines were all singles, they would net you 40x60x10=24,000 points. So you would have 144,000 points by then. So to maximise your score, start on the highest level you are comfortable playing. Since your goal is to score tetrises for maximum score, you are at the mercy of the I-beam. Your #1 enemy is the famine. The famine or drought in Tetris is when you play for extended periods without the coveted I-beam. Stacking up blocks with one long skinny hole on the edge while hoping for an I-beam is risky. If the game does not grant you the I beam, you will have to work to eliminate lines from the puzzle with the pieces you're given while keeping the hole open and ready to recieve the I-beam should one appear. There is some strategy to doing this but it's really beyond the scope of this turorial. L/J, S/Z, square, and T pieces can all be used to eliminate lines from the top of the hole depending on the contour. Generally the portion of the piece directly above the hole needs to be eliminated the the lines it completes. In order to be effective, the pile should slope down towards the hole, not away from it. Stacking pieces high adjacent to the hole is a sure fire way to get killed during a famine... Edited August 8, 2015 by stardust4ever

AtariBrian
Chetiry is one of the most amazing and addictive homebrews on the 2600 and not to mention it keeps your high scores !
