Jag and XRGB MINI = awesome

Hi guys, anyone else using the xrgb mini with there jag ?

We could compare settings, iv also had to make my own RGB SCART lead as everyone I brought off eBay the XRGB mini wouldn't see it as Rgb input ?

You were probably buying RGB cables wired for Euro SCART, not JP-21.

I finally caved and bought a few video switchers... not the newest models in the respective product lines but comparable and much cheaper (DVDO Edge 101 for $130 and XRGB-3 for $150). Save like a total of $1K over getting a iScan Duo/Lumagen and XRGB Mini... maybe in a few years :P

For comparison (watching RGB scaled and transcoded by the XRGB) and S-Video Scaled and transcoded by the DVDO Edge 101 one after another I can't really tell the difference. Maybe if I had a side-by-side or decent capture device that saves to a quality that would reflect the subtle difference I might notice.

Happy with the XRGB-3 as a switcher and scaler though and it has some nice features such as automatic switching which i didn't expect and a lot of inputs (which is what I got it for). My TV doesn't seem to like it in B1 mode with scanlines though (won't recognize the input), not that I really care since I don't really see the point of intentionally degrading the image (just wanted to try it for the hell of it).

The DVDO isn't a great analogue switcher since it only has one set of analogue audio inputs but decent if you want to wire another basic switcher into it like the pelican ones... got it more for the hdmi switching. I get the feeling that's what the mini was really for- to wire a bunch of other switcher into (one RGB, one Composite/S-Video, 1 component, 1 HDMI).

Can you get the xrgb mini in the us, or import only? Anyone know a domestic seller?

They only sell them in japan. You also have to ship them back to your seller in japan first if you need warranty work. Solaris Japan is one of the places recommended to buy one. Also Yakumo on the assemblergames forum is another good seller.

I couldn't get the Xrgb mini to see the rgb from my scart at first, yet tv would.. so I removed all grounds except pin 4 and for what ever reason it works perfect ?

I was also advised to use jag pin 5b to scart pin 20 instead of 11b to scart pin 20 ? Apparently this will give better sync results... I'll try it on my new scart I make when my jag 24 pins turn up.

What is the commercially available equivalent of this device in the United States. Many exist, what do you think is the highest quality? Thanks

Fudoh has checked tons of scalers here and gave his opinions:

The DVDO Edge or iScan VP30 may be worth checking out.

Well I will take your words for it. Plugs into US power socket and works just fine? There are about 5 of them on amazon so I'll look into snagging one when I get the funds. It's too bad there aren't more inputs. I'd like to plug all my retro consoles in, rather than one at a time. I'm really going to have to re-think my game system rack....

Yes, it works fine in the US, that's why so many people here are using them.
