UberArcade
Due to the awesome homebrews on the 7800 I have been working on some 7800 arcade joysticks. The last one I did feels about right. Powder coated metal case, 8-way leaf switch joystick and leaf switch buttons. Case is a good size and give you a place to rest your hands on it. I am also making a 30th anniversary overlay to put on there. Joystick will work on the 2600 as well. Here is a picture as a reference for size. The button and joystick color will change. Placement will change slightly for the overlay. If there is sufficient interest I will make them available for sale. If I make several at once I can get a better price on parts and printing. All new parts are used. This won't be your cheapest joystick option, but it is a really great way to play your 2600 and 7800 games. I am just looking for interest. I won't take any money till they are ready to be mailed out. Thanks

uglyclone
looks awesome! What's the price range you are looking to sell these for?
AlecRob
You should use seimitsu LS-40 joysticks instead of leaf switch ones.. They are clicky and wonderful, the same ones used in Japanese NEOGEO cabs
SoundGammon
Would you just sell the case? I like the joystick on the right and I have some Wico arcade joysticks I'd like to it use with. I also prefer leaf-switches over click style.
UberArcade
What color will the buttons be? And will there be atari 7800 logos on it to make it look official? I am hoping to do a gold ball top and buttons and a matching overlay with Atari logo. Depends on if I can get the sticks I want. I can post some overlay pics when I get something close to final. I thought about the official looking brushed metal plate thing, but I am afraid that wouldn't hold up as well with your hands resting on it.

I just like leaf over micro switch, but maybe I can offer a choice. Problem is those have a different mounting layout so once the plates are drilled you can't easily swap it down the road. Trebor
Is there any chance of the buttons being placed in a 'slanted' layout? Reason being, it would be more comfortable and ergonomic. The Radica SI joystick provides a good example of utilizing both a better ergonomic layout as well as Dauber's inquiry of supporting left and right handed players, and has been a popular converted stick for 7800 owners: Just as another example, the buttons could be placed lower also if desired. See joysticks/layouts like the Neo-Geo or fighters which are designed for, in part, a more comfortable rapid back and forth movement among buttons with reduced fatigue. It's fitting for this era (third generation) too, as Nintendo and Sega utilized this (slanted) preferred button layout for their arcade joysticks: Shooters like Xevious and Scramble would especially benefit from the aforementioned layout with the constant button firing and going back and forth or simultaneously pressing 'fire' and 'bombs'. If slanted button placement is not an option, is it possible for there to be more distance between the joystick and buttons? It would help somewhat for a more comfortable playing experience. UberArcade
The placement I am still messing with a little. I did slanted buttons on one of my other ones with a case that was a little wider and it was pretty good. Scramble is the game I have been playing the most with the joystick. It really needs it. For both left and right buttons on the same stick I would need a pretty big base and at that point you get something like an x-arcade sitting on your lap, but doing left and right handed models sound like a good idea. Trebor
Perhaps something 'simple' with the slant, like this 'left-right' option then (?): Perhaps, it could have a little more "meat" on the button's side for a 'wrist resting' option... Or not, and maybe designed/utilized similar to this way:
+DrVenkman
I'd be interested, depending on the specifics. I like the concepts being tossed out.

+Mitch
When I built mine years ago I put two buttons on both side of the joystick. I also have a small toggle switch on the front near the cable to switch between left and right buttons. Mitch

UberArcade
Any chance of Turbo buttons? UberArcade
I started work on an overlay that matches the 7800 look with the silver stripe. Doing the actual metal plate wouldn't work out well since it would sit up on top of the case, but I can still go for that look with a normal arcade style overlay. I'll post the design soon. Trebor
Any chance of Turbo buttons? The Telegames/Best Electronics versions of the 7800 ProLine joystick have them... Posted about this joystick recently. The joystick actually has just two buttons and a switch (Labeled "Auto" from Best and "Quick" from Telegames) to toggle whether the buttons operate regularly or in an alternate mode. When switched on, the buttons turn into both a 'faster' and a 'continuous' firing mode of operating when pressed. In other words, it not only fires at a very fast speed, additionally, it also acts as if someone is continuously mashing the button(s), even when you just hold the button(s) down.
