Manoau2002
I have accumulated a large amount of trade credit at my local retro video game store. I have been thinking about adding a Turbografx 16 to my collection. What is a fair price to pay for a boxed system? What is a fair price for a loose system? The store basis it's prices on eBay and the systems seem to sell all over the map. I just want to make sure the price I pay is fair.
bradd1978
I've seen boxed TG16's go for around $200 lately maybe a bit more. A loose system varies depending if it comes with controllers, power supply, etc. say around $80?? It just depends. I've seen just console only go for $50 as well. These are Ebay prices so not sure if these are deemed "fair" or not. This is just what I've observed the last few months
Reaperman
Unless things have changed recently, I'd agree with about $50 for a loose one. It's worth noting that the contents of a complete TG 16 box is still about $200 short of a halfway decent TG 16 experience thanks to NEC nickel and diming everybody with memory modules, av addons, second controller ports etc which have now all become somewhat rare. Manoau2002
The only one the local store has is a boxed one in very good condition. I think they want about 170 for it. I am going to ask if they have any loose ones at their other locations in the bigger city.
CatPix
Unless things have changed recently, I'd agree with about $50 for a loose one. Except for the controllers ports, there isn't much to complain about in this regard. AV addons? Well I don't know about the US model, but only the first Japanese model is struck with RF video. Later models have at least composite out. Memory module? Which other console of the era come with what is basically a memory card? (well okay, the Neo Geo does, but you could buy 3 PC engines with the cost of one Neo Geo ) CD add-on? No console came out with both cart and CD medias (sure there is a Megadrive model doing that, but it came out AFTER the Mega CD module). And you can only complain about the US market that kept away from the TG-16. A Japanese multitap sell for 10$. An AV booster for 20/25. Even the Avenue 6 pad sell for 40$, and the Avenue 3 for less. All of this was meant to make the console dirt cheap, too. Even as gray import, so missing the advantage of large scale import, official NES support, and having no translated games, the French company SodiPeng managed to sell the PC-Engine with one bundled game for a bit more than a Megadrive, but LESS than a Super Nintendo! Maybe NEC messed up in the USA and made the TG16 overpriced? Edited August 22, 2014 by CatPix
AtariTexas
I paid exactly 50 dollars for mine loose and it came with a couple common games. That was 5 years ago...I dont think the prices have changed much since then
Manoau2002
I have about 160 in credit so I am hoping that will be enough for the system and a few games.
