toptenmaterial
I recently have been getting into some GBA games on my hacked Wii and boy are is the frame rate shoddy. I don't recall it being nearly so bad on the Game Boy Player. Any insights or solutions? Thanks.
goldenegg
There's no reason to expect Game Boy Player type performance. The Game Boy Player is actual GBA hardware, which outputs audio and video through the Gamecube. There's no emulation at all. The Wii doesn't have enough horsepower to do GBA perfectly. With that said, you might want to give Mednafen a try. I believe it will give you the best GBA performance on the Wii.

Is that an illusion caused by the PSP's small screen?
Rex Dart
I think the PSP does it much better than the Wii. Is that an illusion caused by the PSP's small screen? Nope, PSP had better GBA emulation. A while back I was playing through LoZ: Minish Cap on Wii (when I was at home) and PSP (on the go). Saves were compatible so it was easy to switch. goldenegg up there is correct that Mednafen ran it best on Wii, but it still wasn't as smooth as on the PSP. I assume it's down to emulator efficiency, as the Wii should be a bit tougher. But hey, remember all the PSP/Wii cross-ports back when those were current systems? They're fairly similar in power I guess.
goldenegg
It's not about gPSP being more efficient. It performs well because it doesn't fully emulate the console. There's a lot of things it simply doesn't emulate or fakes in order to get a decent level of performance. You can't get away with that as much when displaying on a larger screen.
