This is a "new" version of pacman for atari 2600 I've been programming since about 2007, but had left in 2008, then in 2013 I resume again to try to finish.
I've been trying to make it as close to the original looking at various sites on the "AI" Ghosts, game logic, etc.
This version has nothing to do with the other version called pacman4k, this is a completely new version, do not use any undocumented opcode.
Currently the rom is about 120 bytes free, so I'm trying to add other things.

I'll post the rom in the coming days.

Meanwhile here's a video:

This and the Mario Brothers game are a heck of a way to introduce yourself.  Welcome to AtariAge!

Are those sounds really coming from a VCS?   :-o

Umm… yeah, those sounds are fantastic. Is this a late April Fools day joke or what? This just may be the definitive version of 2600 Pac-Man yet!

Nukey's is awesome, but the difference between the vertical and horizontal travel kinda breaks it for me. This looks not to have that problem.

Oh and is it me or is Pac-Man grey for about half the video?

Thanks for the comments, maybe Friday I'll post the rom. :-D

Yes, all the sounds come out of the VCS, the Atari2600 / VCS can make better sounds than it seems.

Pacman looks gray sometimes it's for the video capture card that captures at 30 fps with an effect of blur between 2 frames, and when pacman is flickering at 30hz (when not present the item bonus).

If there is enough space in rom, I will make cut scenes. :)

As good as this game is shaping up I would think people would want to buy a cart of this game when all finished . I know I would want one .

Can you put 1982 for the year? I want to fool my friends and tell them they bought the wrong version back then! Something like, "Didn't you know Atari had a deal where they said they put out the wrong one and to send yours back to get the fixed version?" lol

Very, very cool. And really great sounds.

If you need someone to find more space, I am sure I can help you out.

BTW: Is this 4K or larger?

I'd love to 'borrow' the sounds from this and put it into the TIA version of PMC / 320 versions that I did for the 7800.  :D

Fantastic work!  The sound is great and the AI looks spot on. :)

Is keeping it under 4k a goal of yours?  Adding the intermissions would make this the ultimate 2600 Pac-man port, even if it means bumping up to 8k. :)

Nice how the dots are different from the wall colours.

Not a 2600 expert here but I'd guess the ball is used for the vertical sections that don't have the gaps, PF is used for remainder which explains the gaps where they're on the same vertical co-ords as the dots.

Some wall sections seem darker, I would guess there is some flicker going on there?  Capture devices and/or YT video can make this sort of stuff hard to work out.

Yea. if the ROM cannot be shared, then I would like to see a video from an emulator, e.g. using Stella and Bandicam.

I have the means to make a capture from Atari 2600 hardware in a way that presents flickering more authentically, if that would help.

I'm impressed that there's power pills bigger than the dots.

Well today is Friday, I'm here to post the rom. :D
This rom is the same as the video only fix two things, one was a mistake in the sound of extra life and the other a small glitch in the lower right corner.
I have been asked by the size of the rom, as you can see is 4KB, still has no intermission, I'm making music for intermissions too.
In this version I will put everything that can be done, but later I will make a version of 8K to include all
title screen with the names of the ghosts, all intermissions, an inteligent flicker, messages of "game over" and "ready¡" etc.

Nice how the dots are different from the wall colours.

Not a 2600 expert here but I'd guess the ball is used for the vertical sections that don't have the gaps, PF is used for remainder which explains the gaps where they're on the same vertical co-ords as the dots.

The ball I use for "power pills". In the vertical sections that have no gap is the playfield that changes color in this line twice: begins with the blue color of the maze, then just before the first dot, turns yellow and then change to blue again after the last dot.

Here is the rom:
