Stevaside
Gonna be looking to pick it up sometime in the near future. I see the "VE" version is for sale in Atari Age's store. This isn't the version with the enhanced sound is it? Is that version not availiable to purchase anymore??
iesposta
Beef Drop "VE" is the value edition, without POKEY chip sound, correct. It will use a POKEY for sound if it detects one.
Stevaside
Ahh ok, I always wondered what the "VE" actually stood for haha...So the POKEY version was a limited run & probably no longer availiable to buy new I take it then Edited September 14, 2014 by Stevaside
Trebor
Ahh ok, I always wondered what the "VE" actually stood for haha...So the POKEY version was a limited run & probably no longer availiable to buy new I take it then Unfortunately, they are no longer available. I lost my entire classic game collection several years back, in which that was part of the casualty. I've since replaced it with a V.E cart. The good news is the available ROM* will (should) work great in a Harmony Concerto which will allow POKEY sound, or of course if utilized with an XM unit. Regardless, I would be lying to state I would not purchase another/new copy with an included POKEY chip. *Don't worry about it stating "Demo". There are some very minor extra features missing - besides the "Demo" message at the title screen; it is the full blown Burger Time Beef Drop game.
CPUWIZ
Once Fred is finished with HOKEY, Albert can make these without problems, he has tons of my VersaBoard's in stock.

jrose78
So are we saying that the Beef Drop VE edition, sold here, would use the pokey chip in the xm unit when it is released? On a side note: I would be interested as well in the Beef Drop version with Pokey if anyone does a run. It will use the XM's POKEY.That's one reason I bought it, plus it is fun, and the harsh TIA sound isn't that bad.
Lynxpro
Don't both versions supper the HSC?
Rhomaios
Is it worth it to wait for HOKEY?
jrose78
Noob Question: Can the Pokey physically be added to the Beef Drop VE Cart?
CPUWIZ
Noob Question: Can the Pokey physically be added to the Beef Drop VE Cart? Not easily and it would be a wire mess, as well as a lot of work.
Prosystemsearch
There's POKEY, and there's another Sound chip that could be used as a sound chip for 7800 games in the future: The General Instruments AY chip(specifically the one used by the Vectrex) Maybe someday there will also be a POKEY Space Invaders, A POKEY or GI sound Double Dragon, and maybe a POKEY or GI sound 7800 Klax. And yeah, its a good thing that the VE Beef drop will use the XMs POKEY.
