I can see the end is near, or could this just be a new beginning.

Not much people have a screen they could flip around for viewing games sideways.

I think you will sell less games if you make games in this format.

On the other side, it could Work for games like Galaga and Kangaroo, but the Kangaroo game runs in 240 x 256 pixel.

So you will have to squeeze Graphics anyway.

Better if it was an option on screen to choose.

I'm not saying I'm heading this way

I'm interested in other people's opinion on this :) ;)

I have an Mame Cab with a screen that can rotate. At start i use to rotate the screen depending on the game i played. But after few month , i changed my setup , and play all games in horizontal mode with picture streched to use the entire screen. So even if the image ratio of originally vertical game is no more accurate, i prefer play like that.

I think the TATE mode make sense for mame. But for a video game console like the colecovision , not really necessary. Ok, it would allow to create more "arcade perfect" games . But what for? .. Colecovision is a game console, not an Arcade Cabinet. If you really want play arcade perfect. Use Mame or an Arcade Cabinet.

You could imagine to put a colecovision in a arcade cabinet, with the Collectorvision's Arcade Stick and the Tate mode and play a version of DKA supporting TATE mode.

At the end , what you would have....a kind a of Mamecab. Except that Donkey Kong hardware is "Emulated" by the colecovision , instead of a PC.

the only advantage of TATE mode , if the game is done for that mode, it is that you wouldn't have anymore the 4 sprites by horizontal row limit.... :) but now it would be by vertical row. But could be interresting for lot of games.
