Hannacek
Is it normal for the Burger Time game to slow down when a lot of stuff is moving on screen? When I play the game and I have 2 or more enemies on a burger piece that I move across, the game usually slows down for a few seconds as the piece is falling. It seems like the game is struggling to process the movement of the burger piece when it has to fall a great distance with more than one enemy on the piece. Is this a problem with my ColecoVision, or is this just a glitch with the game that is normal? Has anyone else noticed this?
Pixelboy
I noticed this too back in the day. Nothing unusual here, dealing with all these falling pieces of food (and checking if any enemies get caught or squashed in the process) is a little difficult for the ColecoVision to process. Could be unoptimized programming, but really, I think the game's programmer just did the best he could with the hardware he had.
Tempest
Is it as bad in the Mattel proto?
phattyboombatty
No it is not as bad as the Mattel proto. Burgertime for ColecoVision is one of the best of the original releases! It's a great gem of a game, but yes it majorly slows down when too many characters are on the screen.
+nanochess
I like the slowdown, it lets me think and it feels like Matrix's bullet-time
Tempest
The original arcade version (the DECO Cassette System version) also has massive slowdown when you drop multiple enemies (with all four it's brutal). So maybe they were emulating that? This was fixed in the dedicated version.
CrazyBoss
I have the same problem, with a game I try to convert from MSX, it dont slow down at MSX, Seems like the CV is a bit slower, maybe cause it need waitstates?
